yeah you are pretty stupid, these are the programs i recomend:

1. Use DVDEncrypter to rip files from the dvd to your HD
2. Use DVD2AVI to make ripped files into a project file
3. Use TMPGEnc to convert to a VCD mpeg.
4. Burn using Nero's vcd option.

all the defult settings should suffice.

have u guys tested DVD2MPG ?
This software is more easier than converting to AVI and every shits like that.

Just insert the DVD disc in drive , run DVD2MPG , and start to capturing VCD . Just it!

I believe CCE only does mpeg2 which is what you use for SVCD.
Yes CCE does SVCD better than Tempgenc, mind you CCE costs quite a bit more.

CCE does encode MPEG1 but it does not allow you to change the resolution from 720x576 to 352x288 so you have to resize in vdub & frameserve through vdub. This is slower than just framserving using VFAPI. Anyway, im currently encoding the same clip in both TMPEG & CCE so i can compare the two. I will post my results if anyone is interested.

I found that TMPEG gave me better quality than CCE although CCE was faster. Also TMPEG is a lot less hasle to set & use compared top CCE. Stick with CCE! Does anyone know if MPEG1 can use VBR. The reason I ask is because CCE does not blank out the VBR settings when you select to use MPEG1 & I also read this about the VCD standard from an FAQ:

Question: What is the difference between MPEG1 and MPEG2?
Answer: MPEG2 is a superset of MPEG1. Generally, MPEG1 is used for CD-ROM or VideoCD and MPEG2 is used for broadcast or DVD. One current difference between MPEG1 and MPEG2 is that MPEG2 has implemented variable bit rate. MPEG1 variable bitrate is not excluded in the specification, and it's coming...
