Quantscale question - linear + nonlinear in the same movie?

hi all.

i was wondering if one can mix nonlinear and linear quantscale in the same movie (ie same mpeg stream). i don't know if the quantscale is set per GOP, per sequence header or per stream.

bear in mind my destination format is DVD.

i ask because HC is nonlinear and QuEnc is linear, and they both have their strengths as far as encoding goes. when compiling small clips into 1 project there could very easily be mixed quantscale going on, and i'd like to know if this is DVD compliant (i've not been game to try it yet, as i don't really have the time).

You can mix them, and at the picture level. The q_scale_type bit is in the picture_coding_extension (along with tff/rff). Q_scale itself is in the slice header.
