I have just bought a new PC with Windows XPPro. Using DVD Decyrpter and Nero 6 I can burn DVD with no problems. However it will only play on my PC. If I plug in my external DVD rewriter it will burn the same file but it will play on my PC and seperate DVD player through the TV. Also I tried to make a back up copy of a software I bought last week with Nero and a message pops up saying the disk is copyrighted and cannot be copied. I suspect the PC manufacturer has set the PC to do this. Am I correct, and is there a way round this. The PC is manufacturedby Evesham Technologies in the UK

Welcome to the forum:
Recognition by your PC but not your standalone is usually a media compatibility issue. Even cakeboxes of good media will spit out the occasional "dud", so that's another wildcard; find a brand of media that's rock solid with your hardware setup and lay in a good supply when you catch them on sale! Use the following links to check feedback from others that own the same burner make and model as you:
Player/media compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers)
Burner/media compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters)
On your backup copy, submit more information if you haven't figured it out by now. Is it possible that you're using Nero Express instead of the full Nero 6 Burning ROM? Nero Express has known issues with copyrighted material. If you're using an older version of Nero, upgrade immediately.

Many thanks for the welcome. Its a great site.
Regarding my problem with the playback I have just discovered that Evesham have put a block into the model I have bought which prevents any backups including music CD.I am not sure on other PC's they make I think it is wrong of the manufactures to decide what the consumer does with their PC, they should just concentrate on building them.
I assume its in the drivers of the DVD rewriter. Does anyone know a way round this. Installed is Phillips DVD RW model number PBDV164OP and a CD drove PCDV6116

Nero won't make a copy of a cd/dvd that has copy-protection on it. For a dvd use Dvdshrink or Dvddecrypter. For a copy protected cd use Clonecd or similiar. Don't forget to look at the above thread for compatibility issues.

hi rick,
i totally agree with you, the manufacturer of your PC should definitely not decide for you what you can or cannot do with your pc.
therefore i would like to help you with getting around this block :)
i would therefore suggest that you try to burn an iso image with dvddecrypter, to see if the 'block' - whatever it might be in specific - is resident in the burning app (nero) or the firmware of your drives.
please report back if burning with dvddecrypter works or not!
PS: if you only have the vob files etc, use Image Tool Classic to create an iso file you can then burn with DVDDec!

DVD decrypter works fine but its the playback. I have had a couple of problems with the PC appart from play back and have been in contact with the compamy in writing. The letter I recieved the other day states that the machine I have been supplied with will is unable to copy any copyrighted material It then goes on about the copyrightlaw. I have not stated that I have used DVD decrypter but I can't even burn home movies If I plug in my extermal DVD rewiter it all works fine

Is the version of Nero the one that came with the PC or the burner? If so, you may have to get proper versions if the software has been modified by your pc's manufacturer!
If anyone remembers, Plextor was one of the few cd-writers that could copy cds with Sony's Securom protection...so instead of fighting with them, Sony BOUGHT them, and now, suddenly, most Plextor writers can no longer copy those discs AND the downloadable firmware (even old versions) has been altered to prevent it.
And, if I recall correctly, old versions of Nero (5.5 and earlier) were able to copy protected cds...
