I got a video which picture looks deformed, then I was told in fact it isn't because it's anamorphic and I have to enable overlay in ffdshow.
The fact is I don't use ffdshow but VLC media player as its big advantages are to be very cpu usage friendly, and to include with dlls all necessary codecs to play any video files likes divx, avi, ogg and mkv, thus it saves you the hassle to install any codec. And my problem is I don't know how to enable overlay with it, or any option in VLC to display the anamorphic video with the right aspect ratio?

VLC should honor aspect flags.
In any case, you can go into Settings > Preferences > Video > tick 'Advanced options' and manually set the Source Aspect Flag.
