Sorry if this has been overdealt with, but I've ripped a VOB which has sound on it, but if I play it with PowerDVD there is no sound produced. PowerDVD thinks it's got three audio channels but if I try to change channel the VOB freezes. I did a DVDShrink to hard drive on a VOB series like this wondering if it would change but it still didn't produce sound. What's happening and what can I do?

Have you seen this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91712) which is still on the first page here in Noobs? If none of that info helps, post more details and crank it up again.

Load the VOB in Avicodec and see what type of audio it is. Sounds like an audio codec problem. If the audio is AC-3 d/l and install the AC-3 decompressor.

As I said, this is a VOB not an AVI and it was ripped off a DVD which PowerDVD had no problem producing sound from. This should mean I have an appropriate audio codec. IFOEdit says that it's AC-3 (2ch).

Let me assume that there's some trick in the codec situation and I need an AC-3 decompressor. Where do I get it?

And thanks for your responses.

Avicodec will load other video files not just avi files. I know the name "Avicodec" is a little misleading. If you can't find the AC-3 decompressor on this site you can d/l it in the tools section here www.videohelp.com Hope this helps and let us know of your success.

No, what you said was:

...if I play it with PowerDVD there is no sound produced.

Try and install the AC3Filter (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ac3filter_0_70b.exe) to see if that helps.

Sorry about the delay. A visitor for the week.

Finally found AVICodec, which indicates that the audio from the vob is supported. It does indicate the video is not supported on the vob, though I can see the video.

So, I'm now even more confused about the fact that I don't hear the audio!
