I'm trying to burn exsisting video files on my harddrive that are a tad too big to fit on a dvd. I have Nero 6 and dvd shrink but don't know how and if dvd shrink will shink it down enough to fit.
The size of the file is about 700mb at 1hr,32min. using Nero it tells me that I'm going over avalible space.

I'm sure it has been mention before and I've been serching around the forum but I just not finding anything. I know I need to compresse the video to fit on the dvd. I tried using dvd shink but it doesn't show the video files.
The tutorial I've seen only tell you what to do as your ripping the dvdnot for exsisting files unlell i'm not seeing it.
I don't care about ripping a dvd right now I want to make a dvd useing the video files i already have.

You said your file is 700MB big... DVDs single layer have 4,4GB. I don't see the where the problem is.
Greetings! ;)

the dvds i'm useing holds 4.7gb or 120 minutes of video. the actual file sizeis about 700mb at 132minutes. So yea it's a 4.7gb but only 120min of video will fit. Useing Nero 6 it tells me that the file is to large for the disks. Nero is telling me that i'm 115mb over the 700mb limit. So i'm not sure whats going on.
I really don't understand this size diffrence. like I stated before, all the tutorial only teach how to rip from a disk not to use your exsisting files already on your harddrive.
I'm totally cluless here, can some one tell me whats going on or piont me to where I can figure this out.

Are you sure you don't have the "CD" mode selected, as opposed to the "DVD" mode in Nero 6? To check, select "File > New"; in the "New Compilation" dialogue box that pops up, look at the dropdown menu in the upper left corner. In CD mode, the sliding scale at the bottom of the interface runs up to 850MB's, under the DVD mode it maxes out at something like 5,000MB's.

Be very careful. Your request would seem to skate the issue of personally owning the files in question, which is one of the prerequisites for receiving help. Read the Announcement at the top of the Newbies homepage for further clarification. All valid questions are answered here, but 700MB avi files from the net do not fall into this category.

Your input doesn't make sense on a couple of levels, so read up, regroup, and figure out where you're at with this one.

i don't like to use nero to create dvds...

I use it to burn the final product.. or use recode to help with other stuff...

But I saw a similar thing happen with some video files i was tryin to combine onto a DVD.

I used DVD LAb Pro and it worked like a champ.. compiled the DVD and then used nero to burn to a disk.

just a thought
