Hi again,

I now have a MSI FX5700LE-TD128 (GeForceFX 5700), graphics card, and i think it is supposed to capture from analogue source too.
(has a SVHS input thingy...)

However, I more or less only use Linux now. I dont mind to resort to wine + sth like Virtual Dub if there is no other solution available

So my question to one of you smarter folks out there, is,

- How do I capture my old VHS stuff to put them into something digital (.avi files in xvid, or matroska, seems all fine).

I prefer no GUI interaction if possible too, commandline is nice, but i am not sure where to go from here.

cheers

The nVidia drivers don't handle video input. You have to use the linux "nv" driver and v4l. RivaTV is good for video input. Then you can specify the v4l device as the source for mencoder to record the video. If your CPU isn't very powerful, be sure to use light compression and no resizing or filtering. Then go back later and use two-pass xvid and all the other goodies to make the final video.
