View Full Version : installation of dvd shrink and other components: does sequence matter?

hope i am asking my query correctly...

everything was fine till the latest nero update.

i use dvd shrink 3.2.0.15
and dvd decrypter, et al.

and also have nero OEM which usually is the burning software that shrink usually burns to.

i recently updated my nero burning software to 6.6.08a,
the february 2005 update.

upon installation of nero update some aspect of
dvd shrink ceased to function properly,

that is: it would rip and encode, but would not burn.

something in my mind suggested a sequence for installation was important. is it?

so, i uninstalled the dvd shrink and
reinstalled it as i suspected in installation
shrink might have had to connect with the nero update, and other components.

or is nero/ dvd decrypter etc., to be installed first?

then i tried a new dvd to copy,
and dvd shrink worked fine,

but the second time, different dvd, it again encoded but did not burn.

i was able however to burn the second dvd
from the encoded files that dvd shrink made.

in effect re-running dvd shrink to recode the previously
coded files.

that was bit complicated and not the way it is intended.

does any of this make sense?

any suggestions?

thanks in advance,
robert in gozo

hmmm... honestly i do not think that the order of installation does matter in any way...

anyway, if nero doesn't burn automatically noting is lost. iirc there's two kinds of files that shrink can spit out:

a) a single .iso file
b) a set of dvd files consisting of .vob .ifo and .bup files

both sets of files can easily be burnt with nero manually...

for a) just open nero, go to 'recorder > burn cd/dvd from image' and for b) just start up nero burning rom in dvd video mode drag and drop _all_ the files nero created directly into the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD structure and burn...

both methods should create totally valid DVDs

thanks for the info.

will try and burn from nero recorder.
sounds like a good project.

was able as mentioned to use dvd decrypter and dvd shrink from files.

i think have tried nero recorder before but i have gotten a message that i must upgrade nero to do something to/ with the files..

maybe there is a way around that.

but i will try your specific suggestion.

you are absolutely correct that the files are there and i simply must work harder to figure things out.

all in all am grateful for/ to
the chaps who wrote the dvd shrink and other freeware software,

as well as guys like yourself
and gals,

who help in this forum

cheers,

robert

Under Nero Ultra ... select DVD Video

you will see 2 foldiers automatically the Audio and Video ones.. the video being red.

Just drag and drop the DVD files to this folder, rename the DVD and bam DVD.

Or like suggested create the ISO image using shrink instead of DVD Files.

But since it seems sometimes nero cooperates and sometimes it doesn't... I would just kee using shrink they way you have been.. and if nero doesn't automatically burn the DVD for you... then just look in your folder that you selected as the output folder and burn the DVD manually

good luck

BTW I am still on 6.6.0.6 and I am now reluctant to update... 8-)

thanks,

uploaded nero (feb 21, 2005 version)

also contacted nero tech support.

had to uninstall all
nero per very clear and precise

instructions from nero people

and clean up all old nero files.

must have been a glitch.

seems to works fine,
today.

be safe,
robert
