Can some one shed a light on a thought that i just had and tell me the best way to do it.

I used to catputre home videos from my DV camcorder to my laptop, edit them, add chapters, titeles, etc and then burn them on my DVD burner.

Now, I can just plug my DV camcorder to a stand alone DVD recorder and record directly on a DVD. The only problem, is that I can't do much eaditing this way and I have to insert the chapters either automtically ever 5 minutes or manually.

So I was thinking to just record the whole tape to the DVD, then rip the DVD to my HD and then re author.
M question is, what is the best way to re author after ripping the DVD to my HD?
Do I need to convert the files to DV format? Is there a software that would allow me to re author without having to convert?
I'm lost here.
Any ideas or directions are welcome.

Thanks

DVDLab Pro will directly take the .vob's off your disk, and allow you to reauthor any way you like.
Just make sure you select the option "demux and join" for the easiest method.
If you need to do simple edit (cut stuff out), then you can rip the .vob's to m2v and ac3 (or whatever the audio is) in ReJig File Mode.
Edit in something like Cuttermaran, then reauthor in DVDLab.
You don't even have to remux to mpg, as dvdlab prefers to work with elementary streams.
All of this with no re-encoding.
If you need more than simple cuts, then you'll need an NLE that has fades, transitions etc, but this will probably involve re-encoding.
