Pack header not found

Hi,

I'm trying to rip a DVD with DVDDecrypter (v 3.5.2.0).
When I try IFO mode i get the following:

The resulting folder will be 4.14GB where the original disc is 5.88GB.

When I try ISO mode I get the following:

The resulting iso file is 5.88GB (like the original disc) but when using this ISO in DVDRB I get a runtime error '6': overflow.
So my guess is that dvd problem encountered in DVDdecrypter causes the my runtime error (although dvddecrypter says warning and not error).

When I try to backup the disc in DVDShrink 3.2 with no compression DVDshrink crashes.

I've tried this in 3 different DVD drives on 2 different PC's.
So I think I can exclude the possibility of a bad dvddrive as well.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?

FILE mode gives me the same problem as with IFO mode. :(
When I extract the iso from ISO mode and try Get VTS Sectors in IFOedit no errors were found either.

I'm no expert especially on IFOedit which I feel it can be your last stop to find out if your source is good to begin with. Try the VOBextra function inside IFOedit....do a search on my previous posts.

I guess you get a 'possible structure protection found!' message in the log when you put this disc in?

You can probably ignore the pack header warnings, they're part of the protection, as would then be the IFO/BUP patching error at the end of the disc.

If you only had 1 patching error, I expect your drive just didn't read the sectors for that file properly.

I don't get that message in the log.
When I ignore the warnings and the patching error (only 1 patching error) I can't encode the disc in DVDRB (not sure if it's related to the warnings and patching error).

I tried this in 3 different drives on 2 different PC's so I don't think it's a drive related problem ?

It would be easier to see the full picture here if you posted the full log. Screenshot don't really help all that much in this instance.

That said, if all drives in 2 pcs have failed, I'd put it down to a bad disc!

Yeah I'm thinking it's an issue on the disc as well.

The weird thing here is, when I rip it to an ISO (with the patching error at the end) I'm able to play it in PowerDVD without any problem. But I can't encode it through DVDRB or DVDShrink.

When I do a mock strip on the ISO, I'm able to back it up with no compression in DVDShrink (didn't try compression), but still not able to encode through DVDRB.
The problem is situated in VTS_01_6.VOB which contains some erroneous data I believe. PowerDVD ignores this so it plays perfect there, but for encoding it gives problems.

Is there a way to fix this vob alone (rest of the vobs are fine) ?

I'll post the DVDdecrypter log tonight when I'm back home.

Maybe if you uncheck the last cell in IFO mode it'll work ok.

But then if you JUST check the last cell and rip that, and it plays part of the film, you DO have a duff disc.

When I uncheck the last cell, the rip goes without any warnings or errors. But I'm missing the last piece of the main movie.

When I check only the last cell, I get the pack header not found warnings again. When I open the resulting vob file in powerdvd it plays the final piece of the main movie.

So you're saying I have a duff disc?
Why is powerdvd able to play it without any problems then? There must be a way to correct that last vob file right?

Well maybe powerdvd also sees those bad packets but just 'deals' with them. Your other programs might not be able to.

My program mearly reports the fact that they're not how they should be - it doesn't actually care about it.

I guess if you really wanted to correct it, you could do.

Open up the vob in a hex editor, search in 2048 byte chunks and find any chunks that dont start with (hex) 00 00 01 BA

Then zero out that chunk of 2048 bytes. DVD Shrink 'should' be able to handle that.

Oh btw, that last picture of yours shows chapter 1 and 15 as being ticked ;)

You wouldn't get cell 1 in chapter 15. Ok, so that's just a picture, I'm sure you actually did it right when you ripped it. Just remember that putting a tick in the box is not the same as 'selecting' it. When it's selected, it get the blue highlight bar around it.

Oh i just checked/unchecked the checkboxes ?
When I checked chapter 15, cell 1 was automatically checked also, when I unchecked chapter 15, cell 1 was unchecked as well.

Every chapter had a cell 1 or is that impossible ?

You'll only have 1 cell 1, 1 cell 2 etc.
