View Full Version : RobshotBach method for Rebuilder?

I have a question that I am hoping one of our experts can help me with.

I have read in multiple locations about using a "robshot" method of predicting the best quality, close to 4 pass level, but using only a small test pass and a single full pass.

DVD2SVCD has a plugin that uses a modified version called the RobshotBach method.

I was wondering if something similar could be incorporated into either Rebuilder or RB-Opt. I love the quality of CCE, but the time required, even for an Athlon 64 is extensive. If the RoBa method is actually close to a 4 pass encoding, I would love to see it included in Rebuilder, which is now my backup software of choice.

Thanks,
Mike

If I am not wrong the "robshot" method is a very smart prediction method for OPV encodings. This is already present in DVD-RB.

If you are using CCE:
Options --> CCE Options --> One Pass VBR (w/analysis)

If you are using QuEnc [newly introduced in DVD-RB 0.78]:
Options --> QuEnc Options --> One Pass CQ VBR (w/analysis)

An even more sophisticated analysis can be performed using RB-OPT.

If the RoBa method is actually close to a 4 pass encoding, I would love to see it included in Rebuilder, which is now my backup software of choice.

My opinion is that in case OPV is hitting precisely the target encoding size then it will be so close to a 4 pass encoding... to overcome it... And me frankly not seeing good reasons, with multipass encoding, to perform more than 2...

Edit: by the way has anyone tried One Pass CQ VBR with QuEnc ?

I am a noob at RB, and have tried RB-Opt. exactly 1 time, so I wasn't sure if that was what it was doing. I hoped it was something like it, but wanted to ask in the forum so I could learn more.

Thanks for the response. Now I just have to get comfortable using RB-Opt.
