no. i can use vobsub for playback but i wanted to hardcode it into the avi so i dont need any programs to play the subs.. i am trying to move some avi files into my digital audio player. can anyone recommend me more programs ?

if you really want to hardcode it into the video you have to reencode the whole video... virtualdubmod, avisynth, vobsub all can do it one way or another... video quality will suffer significantly though!

I meant vobsub to play back avi-muxed files...
If the container isn;'t an issue, you're better off with matroska, if it is, then you will need to reencode and lose tons of quality

i think he wants standalone compatibility, so matroska isn't really an option...

yeah.. matroska makes .mkv format but i was looking for .avi format as an end result. it may be possible to make into .mkv to .avi but i fear might lose quality..

mkv to avi is a not a format but a container conversion, it should _not_ affect video quality!
