View Full Version : How to set encode whole movie @ once?

I just tried out DVD-Rebuilder and noticed that it passes segments (I think cells) on to CCE, which encodes each segment seperate witht the target passes.

How can you encode the whole movie @ once, with CCE so it does distribute all the bits perfect on the whole movie instead of the individual segments.

In my opinion this is a great loss of the quality you can get with CCE encoding. I am wondering what's the purpose of doing 5 or 6 passes on cells of 1 minute :s

Is there another program which encodes the whole movie at once in CCE? maybe DoCCE4U?

thanks

Sorry, but it is my opinion you are wrong. And some significant testing has documented that fact. You can find some of it with a search here on DOOM9. Others thought the same thing until they did the tests. (I've done much more).

A lot of work has gone into making sure that is accounted for. The first scan of the source (while creating the D2V, which DVD-RB does itself) examines the source (like a first pass) and dynamic allocation makes sure the bits are spread correctly.

There are also things that can't be done if you do it the all-at-once way, like ensuring a frame accurate representation of the original with CCE Basic. Try doing a hybrid movie some time and pretending it truly represents the original.

If you are going to say things like "a great loss" you should first understand both methods so you can make an informed comparison, and then at least have some solid data to support it.

If you're dead set on doing it that way -- Big Three can do it.

Thanks for the answer

So you realy think that encoding cell by cell gives at least an equal quality to encoding the whole at once in CCE?
I still think a vey LITTLE quality can be gained by encoding the movie at once. Maybe not much, but it will not cost any more time to encode all at once.
Is it maybe possible to give an option to choose between the method, or is it impossible to do the movie at once (although you say the big 3 do it)

I see its not a big loss, because the cells dont get all the same average bitrate, didnt know that, should have done more surney into the forum, but did not have time for that.(why is there the option to turn off dynamic assign cell bitrates? quality will go down and speed is not going up I assume)

HOW about movies where there is just a high constant bitrate?

BTW : I like this program much more than the 3, because is much easier to work with and I like its only one program.
I think you did a great job!

keep it up!
thanks

why is there the option to turn off dynamic assign cell bitrates? quality will go down and speed is not going up I assume The dynamic cell bitrate assignment was added as a module, and I put it in as an option for testing, but never removed removed the option entry. I can think of no instance in which you would want to encode without dynamic bitrate allocation. I'll probably remove the option at some point and just force it.
