View Full Version : Succesful Burn - DVD-ROM won't play

Hello All,

Thanks for your previous help. I have moved my DVR 109 internally and it's working well. I have one final question to sort out.

I use my DVD-ROM to read, then I burn with my DVR 109 using Nero Express and Shrink (creating ISO.) I managed to succesfully burn at 6X and the DVD plays in my standalone player. However, my DVD-ROM software (Dell Media experience) does not recognize the burnt DVD-R.

I am using Smartbuy 1-8X. Is this likely a media issue, or is there something I need to do for my DVD-ROM / software to recognize the burn

Thanks very much,

Are you expecting your Dell player to autoload the disc, or have you tried opening the software and manually loading the file to try and force it to play?

One of the easiest options for your scenario is to try and play the disc in another software player. Gabest's Media Player Classic is a solid tool that's used by many of us, this link (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli) will tunnel you into the sourceFORGE page that houses the information for it.

I doubt that this is a media issue, if it were, the first place you'd usually encounter a problem is with your standalone, at least, that's the most common playback problem we generally see in the Forum.

Thanks ammck55,

I haven't forced the media player yet - I will give that a go tonight, along with "Media Player Classic."

With redards to MPC, do I want to download the MPC version or the MPC (transl) version?

Thanks very much for your help.

Get the mpc2kxp.zip (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358&release_id=308872) if you're running a Windows 2000 or XP OS, the download for 98 is directly below this one. This is the English version; I don't know what languages the other version is translated/written in, I've never used that link.

There seems to be a problem with XP and recognizing disks in one drive - practically everyone I know has this problem. To get the disk to read, I have to explore My Computer, right-click the drive and eject, click the drive and press F5 to refresh, right-click and eject again (yes, while it's already open), refresh again, then close the drive.

However, my DVD-ROM software (Dell Media experience) does not recognize the burnt DVD-R.

Dell uses a version of powerdvd(3.5?) for dmx. I've never had any problems with powerdvd, but i've never used the dell version.
.
Have you used any other apps?

I have never heard of this before, nobody i know has ever had this problem with xp before, and thats just to much of a headache to get a dvdr to work.
.
It sounds to me like the problem is with the dvd-rom, have you tried using a different drive (model)?

CWR03-- LIke mudda_t says, I've never had this problem with XP. Run an internet search with your model + drive recognition and see if others with your specific optical drive are experiencing the same problem; there might be a fix out there for you. :)

There's a link to the latest Media Player Classic, v.6.4.8.3, on the Forum's March newspage, 3-2.
