Within weeks, the German software engineer Guido Ciburski is expected to release Cybersky-TV, a free peer-to-peer program for sharing live TV signals. Broadcasters have already been keeping an eye on Ciburski (and sueing him) since he developped a TV ad-blocker a few years ago.
A German Pay-TV company has already taken legal action and managed to get a temporary ban on the release. That's why the release originally planned for January is somewhat delayed. The ban is likely to be lifted on March 22.
If Ciburski delivers, he could be changing the laws of broadcasting. It almost sounds to good to be true. But the reason why things tend to sound to good to be true is because they most of the time turn out to be to too good to be true.
So will it work?
