I used DVD Rebuilder ver .77 to make a back-up. When I went to burn the DVD, Nero showed this message: DVD-Video files reallocation failed. The resulting DVD-Video might be unplayable. Do you want to continue.

The version nf Nero that I am using is Nero SE 6.3.1.12 for my Sony DRU-700A burner.

I've used DVD RB and this version of Nero in the past without a problem. Does anyone have an idea as to what the Nero error means? Should I disregard it and burn the disk anyway? Or better still, how do I avoid the error in the first place.

Thanks for any ideas on this.

I've seen that message a few times so I just checked to make sure the movie played all the way through on the hard drive then just ignored the message and burned the disk. I've never had a problem with the burned disks. If your worried try it on a dvd-rw first.

Nero gives that message a lot.....

so far the best way I've found is to get rid of Nero from the picture... I use ImgTool Classic to build a .iso then burn that w/ dvddecrypter

I tried writing using ImgTool, it gave me the an allocation error message, too. Is the use of ImgTool supposed to eliminate the allocation error message?

Amyway, I'll just burn a couple of DVDs, one with Nero and the other using the ImgTool and DVD Decrypter method and see what happens.

Thanks for the help.

I may be wrong, but I've always assumed that message was present because of the ARCCOS copy protection, and the dummy files created by DVD Decryptor...I beleive Nero is checking the links to all the VTS files on the disc, and sees that some files aren't linked, or have problems, etc. (i.e., the blank dummy files). Maybe someone else can shed some light on this, but I know I've seen it happen a lot with discs that are reported to have ARCCOS protection.

naw... nero's been giving that message LOOOONG before arccos... and actually arccos works by having cells NOT referenced..

Generally speaking you can ignore that message HOWEVER, there are players that can't handle dvd's made if that error is ignored...

Ahead tried to explain it once but I don't think they know what causes it either :)

Is it a real error? What does the error say? What are the symptoms?

Below is the Nero log file

When I go to burn the disk in Nero, I first get this message:
http://www.polar.icestorm.com/sfl/misc/nero_error.jpg

If I click "OK" to continue, I then get this message
http://www.polar.icestorm.com/sfl/misc/nero_error_2.jpg

I didn't choose to continue writing. Below is the Nero log file that resulted from the two error messages.

It appears it is choking because of an unreferenced VOB... a VOB that exists on the original DVD. DVD-RB reproduces it because it is designed to make a copy that is as close to possible to the original. It's also debatable whether it truly isn't referenced, but they could be right -- DVD-RB doesn't even check for that.

Now as I recall there was also a problem similar to this related to zero length files in NERO.

I'd just burn it anyway -- or get a different burning package. Just my opinion. I'm not a big NERO fan.

Believe me... Nero isn't a great choice for burning DVD
The 6.6.XX.XX are much better though... you really should upgrade your version.
I'm not saying that that's not a valid error... but I've burned some DVD (with nero) with that error and the results were always fine.
Still... I prefer Pinnacle software.

keep it UP

6.6.x or not doesn't really matter

i've had this message numerous times and ignored it

if i remember correctly there were 0byte vobs causing nero to choke

You used ImgTool not ImgTool Classic..

Imgtool is just a front end for Nero
ImgTool classic uses MKISOFS to generate the IMG

Thanks for the feedback. That was going to be my question, what software is recommended for DVD burning?

I'll try ImgTool Classic and see how that goes. I did try Alcohol 120. With Alcohol 120 the DVD burned fine - no error messages, but the DVD didn't play correctly in one spot - the picture and audio froze. I was testing the Alcohol burned DVD on my PC so, it might play correctly in a DVD player.

As some had noted, the Nero burned DVDs, even when Nero gave the reallocation error before burning, will still play. I found that the place on the DVD where the Alcohol 120 burned DVD froze, the Nero DVD did not. Not sure if that is conclusive of anything, but that is what I experienced. I have not yet attempted to play either DVD completely.

I've always recommended whatever comes with the drive... I use B's Recorder Gold for that reason. Any package that will burn a data dvd will work. You just drag and drop AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS into the disc's folder, change the label to what you want, and push the burn button.

I've noticed when I get the error there will be one or more vob's and ifo's that are 200 bytes in size. I just delete them and the prob is solved. Works every time for me.
