View Full Version : Run time error 7 during rebuild on large movies

8th March 2005, 18:54
I just got run time error 7 on Spartacus R1 during rebuild.

I also get run time error 7 during later part of rebuild (seg 45 vobid 1 cellid 46) on the LOTR movies. Tried it with and without special error processing.

Environment:
HP 1024Mb 3.0E P4 WinXP with SP2 3000Mb page file.
DVD-RB .72-.77beta, Quenc .57-.59Beta2, DGdecode110, Avsynth 2.5.5

Options:
dynamic bit rates , 1 or 2 pass w/wo HQ option.

Movie LOTR R1, removing 2chl sound track. DCCd to HD in file mode, no preprocessing.

I have processed other smaller movies w/DVD-rb sucessfully.
Suggestions?
keep up great work.

Did you get error 7 with QuEnc 0.57 and also with 0.59?

Oldeman
8th March 2005, 21:31
I did try .57 with LOTR but not on Spartacus, am now trying DVDRB .78 with constant quantifier(CQ) and Quenc. It will take awhile.

Oldeman
8th March 2005, 23:35
Ok, DVD-RB.78 with Quenc 59b2 and QC 1 pass failed near end of rebuild with run time 7 segment 14 vobid 1..

It did run a lot faster than 2 pass however.

Has anyone done Spartacus withg DVDRB and Quenc ?

What is "Runtime error 7" -- I don't think I've ever seen it?

[ADDED] Hmmm... I did a search and someone on AfterDawn (only one) reported a problem on LOTR with runtime error 7 back in August. Are you running Win98?

Oldeman
9th March 2005, 05:18
No, WinXP SP2 see first post for details.

Oldeman
9th March 2005, 15:13
I just re-ran Spartacus with DVD-RB.78, QuEnc.57a, 2-pass and increased my system page file (virtual memory) to 4000mb. I got the run time error 7 at segment 14 77% complete during rebuild.

I have run smaller movies sucessfully.

Any more Ideas?

"Out of memory" is one of those errors you can't seem to trust. From my experience I think that when Windows can't figure out the cause of something goofy -- it throws this back as a default.

I just got run time error 7 on Spartacus R1 during rebuild with HC encoder at roughly the same place (79%) as with QuEnc. I think this is a DVD-RB problem with large movies, not a QuEnc problem.

I also get run time error 7 during later part of rebuild (seg 45 vobid 1 cellid 46) on the LOTR movies. Tried it with and without special error processing.

Environment:
HP 1024Mb 3.0E P4 WinXP with SP2 3000Mb page file.
DVD-RB .72-.78beta, HC.012(batch), DGdecode110, Avsynth 2.5.5

HC Options:
dynamic bit rates, 1 pass CQ VBR option, defaults.

Movie Spartacus R1, removing 2chl sound track. DCCd to HD in file mode, no preprocessing.

I have processed other smaller movies w/DVD-RB sucessfully.
Suggestions?

jdobbs
12th March 2005, 17:05
Well, more accurately it may be a problem with DVD-RB and "Spartacus" -- not with large movies... I've done many larger movies without problems, and since I've done all the LOTR movies without issue, it may not even be related to DVD-RB... I'm not saying I won't look at it -- just clarifying.

Thanks, I'm clueless as always...

@all

Is anyone else getting this error?

Msc_Alex
12th March 2005, 23:04
No, check if you always get this error at the same place, doing a same run. That would say software. If it is more random after exposing your system to a high performance job it could be Hardware. At what stage does is happen, always rebuild ?

Oldeman
13th March 2005, 04:30
As I stated before, I have done other movies sucessfully with DVD-RB and QuEnc. I just re-built Patton (fairly large movie) with DVD-RB.78 and QuEnc .59B2 CQ 1 pass mode and it ran fine.

So its not all large movies, just a few that I have tried...

I also have run time 7 rebuild errors trouble with the last two LOTR movies, besides Spartacus.

I use DVDShrink, Recode, TMPGen and other video processing CPU intensive apps with no memory or other odd errors other than my own stupid mistakes.

jdobbs
13th March 2005, 11:37
There has to be something peculiar in your setup. I have no doubt the error is coming from DVD-RB, but since no one else is getting it you have to be doing something a little different. I'd like find out what that "something" is. Others may see the same problem manifested in a different way -- and the Error 7 may be a clue.

One suggestion would be to start Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, click on the Mem Usage column to sort it with highest memory at the top, then keep an eye on that while doing the backup.

If you can time it so you're watching around when the error occurs, look at both the processes with the top memory usage, and also the "Commit Charge" at the bottom of the window. (I've seen cases where it stops showing memory growing for a leaky app, once it reaches a certain threshold, but you can tell from the Commit Charge that the memory usage is still going up.)

Oldeman
15th March 2005, 03:51
Great idea Lamster,
I was able to observe mem usage climb and commit charge climb at end of offending v01001400001015.m2v until it tanked...
Mem usage went from less than 16m to >26m when it barked out the run time error 7. Appears to have a leak.

Sorry about the following long post:

After observing memory usages a couple of times, rebuilder starts out copying files in rebuild phase:
11.48mb and commit charge of 147mb/3429mb max

it grows in a fairly linear fashion until almost the end of v01001400001015.m2v -->26mb and 162mb commit charge,

it then quickly gets erratic and jumps to over 30mb and then back and dies... last reading: 28.54mb and commit charge of 164/3429.

I have repeated it w/wo hyperthreading enabled and also with shuting down all antivirus and most other programs.

What info do you need?

Ok I'm going to go out and buy Spartacus R1 today and will let you know what I find.

@Oldeman

What version of Spartacus do you have that is causing the problem? There's two versions of the 1960 version (normal and criterion edition) and a 2004 remake...

Oldeman
15th March 2005, 20:49
It is the Universal version restored in 1991 DVD came out in Jan 2002 (not the criterion) version.

Has one large VTS of 7.77GB, a few simple menus, one English 5.1 and a French 2.0 language track.

breaking news, just ran it with ReJig. died with run time error 7.

1) Ripped to disk with Decypter 3.5.2 file mode.
2) No preprocessing.
3) Cleared rebuilder.ini, and work space.
4) Ran DVD-RB ReJig one click, no audio track or subtitles removed.
5) Error 7 occured in rebuilding v01001300001014.m2v(instead of v01001400001015.m2v), I had been removing the french audio track in the HC ands QuEnc attempts.

This tells me that its not something in a particular cell, just the continuing growth of rebuilder until it exceeds 32mb.

Before you go buy this DVD, let me retry the LOTR ROTK with HC. I have the set and I think you mentioned that you did. I think I got a similar failure there with QuEnc but I know a little more about the problem now.

It could still be something unique to my machine, I do have a lot of crap loaded on it.

Thanks for your support

JDobbs,
I owe you an appolgy.

In frustration, I used Rockas installer to re-install DVD-RB in another directory. In initial tests it appears that the run time 7 has disappeared. Spartacus ran thru with ReJig with no run time 7 failure. I am rerunning it with HC now.

It must have been a bad version of DGdecode or Decomb or whatever. At any rate don't waste any more time on the run time 7.

I'm sorry about this. So many versions, I thought maybe it was the famous memaligned avcodec. Who knows...
The Oldeman:(

It might be interesting to try renaming the Rebuilder.ini in the new directory, and copying in the one from the old directory. If the error 7 reappears, then you could start looking at differences between the 2 files to narrow down the cause.

booooyaa.. I get the same error!

On ice age 2, disc 2. I've done it twice and the error comes up at the same spot. However, I'm using CCE 2.7.0.201.. i also got the error with DVD-RB RC2 and since then I've upgraded to RC3 and still get the error.

I don't think its my machine, the specs are
AMD Athlon 64+ 3000
1 gig ram
320 gig hd
win xp sp2

what else can I do to fix this!
