hi everyone,

i am looking for some help in my backups.i rip a disk with dvd decrypter,load into shrink to edit movie only.run dvd rb (74) with english only and no subs.encode with cce 2.67 and 4 passes.can i do something more to get the most quality.i would like to try rb opt,but after reading about it,i became very confused.setting your own bit rate?q value?quality % and vbr bias settings?i just want to get the most out of these programs.thanks for any inputs.

I back up all my movies with a sharpening filter. The result is like having a Super-Bit DVD over the regular.

and if the dvd is noisy you are likly to end up with a not very nice result(people can guess the 1 word for that i was thinking :)).

radar - whether you can get anything extra out of the source depends on what the source is like. for example a noisy source can have some light filtering(denoising) which may make it look a bit better. for a good clean picture though there should be nothing done as you would be more likly to reduce the quality rather than omprove it.

What!!!? there are noisy DVD movies out there??!! Tell me which ones so I will avoid buying those. :p
