Hi,
A friend of mine has a MPEG file which he needs in AVI format. I don't know if he has MPEG1, 2 or 4. I have Flask to convert MPEG1 and 2 to AVI but which program can I use to convert a MPEG4 to AVI?
Thanks,
Guido

Divx and Xvid are mpeg4 with the .avi file extension. You can load your file in Avicodec, Gspot or Virtualdub mpeg2 to get the file info (all 3 are free). Avicodec and Gspot will tell you if the necessary codec/s are installed on your computer. If the file is a mpeg Virtualdub mpeg2 will convert the file to avi if the necessary codec/s are installed on your system.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. A friend of mine needs a AVI file to be able to make adjustments to the file with Pinnacle. He says he can't do that because the file is a MPEG at the moment. Because Divx and Xvid are mpeg4 with the .avi file extension, does that mean that he has MPEG 1 or 2? And I can use Flask to convert the file to AVI?
Thanks,
Guido

FlasKMPEG is a free easy to use video conversion, DVD to VCD/ SVCD/ AVI/ DivX/ XviD software utility.
This ia the quoted description.
Did you load the file in one of the above mentioned software to determine exactly what type of file you're dealing with? If it is a mpeg file can you explain what you're trying to do with the file. Perhaps you can do it without having to convert.
