View Full Version : Bourne Identity - wish to remove some extras but they seem to be interwoven

I want to rip ALMOST all the stuff out. I don't want any of the deleted scenes, but DO want to keep the alternate ending. I want to dump the Moby video in it, the other languages, the movie trailer....bunches of stuff I want to remove, some stuff I want to keep.
The problem I'm having is that all the extras seem to be interwoven. For example, in the Video_TS, there are 15 VOB's and the last one is the Moby video. The video is ALSO located in VTS_03_1, VOB 2, but if I remove it using IfoEdit, the entire VTS is rendered useless, and that VTS happens to hold 2 extras I WANT to keep.
This goes on throughout ALL the VTS'...If I can remove it, it's usually tied somehow into something I want to keep, which becomes useless once I remove the chaff.
I tried using DVD Shrink, but it's the same story there. If I can remove it, they somehow tied a bunch of the extras into a big chunk so if I want to remove one thing, I lose something else I wanna keep. After removing all the stuff I don't want (sacrificing what I wish to keep in the process), setting the compression for everything BUT the movie to as low as I can, the movie still comes in under 70% for a compression rate, and I'm just not comfortable with that low a %.
I know I'm missing giving you guys some information you need to help me, so let me know what other information I need to give you before I'm forced to scream

If you're willing to re-author it with DVDShrink (thus losing the original menus), you can set selective compression levels on various parts (including still images) by right-clicking on the title in question, "Set start/end frames" and setting the range you want, then changing compression ratios just for that range. There was a recent thread on this, but unfortunately I don't remember the title or URL.

I know, the threads you wanna keep track of, it's almost like you gotta set up a separate bookmark folder for 'em all :D
I had found that thread, and followed those steps (making all the unwanted crap into a still image for the best possible space savings), and using that method got me the 70% I mentioned, which kinda cheesed me off - stripping stuff I wanted to keep and still ending up with a % that low - so I figured if I'm gonna end up with a fairly low %, I may as well try to remove that crap I don't want.
I'll give you a "for instance" why. Using DVD Shrink, turning the Moby video into a still image gives me the most space savings, but still results in a 12Mb file. A savings of 40 megs, but if I could rip the friggen thing out (I like Moby, but I'm REALLY starting to HATE that video!) altogether, that'd give me the result I want, AND additional space.
That's not even the worst part. After making the damn video (can you tell it's starting to piss me off? lol) a still image in THAT area, the video is STILL IN ANOTHER AREA! and after making THAT into a still image, it's still ending up costing me over 100 megs, JUST to turn that dang thing into a still image.
It costs me space, items I wanted to keep, and worse, permeates the entire DVD structure like a friggen worm virus!
Moby is my white whale ;)
In reading over the "Finding Nemo" guide, it really sounds as if that's my issue, but I'm not positive on that. Is there more info I can give to help you guys help me?
Thanks

Someone can probably help... personally, I'm lazy enough that I almost always settle with the best DVDShrink can do (which is "pretty good" often enough), and my DVD collection is mostly older stuff without this kind of problem.
My guess is VOBBlanker is what you need, possibly in combo with IFOEdit -- that might get you started in the right direction. If the structure is really complex, a complete reauthoring from scratch might be needed.
P.S. LOL @ your sig... :p

's ok, I appreciate even the littlest crumb.
FWIW, I was successful in stopping the Moby video from playing first when "DVD Play"-ing the VIDEO_TS.IFO by going through menu extras and stripping everything (all audio, and all video) EXCEPT VOB 15, which in my previews and use of VOBrator showed the video to be only in that VOB (somewhere I missed something  ). Dunno exactly HOW I got it to do that, other than trying something different.
Even a blind squirrel's gotta find a nut sometimes!
It (the Moby video) is still in two other locations, and those are the ones that are DEFINITELY interwoven.
Continuing to hold out hope you guys have THE solution for me :)

If my understanding of this is right, it appears that this movie has seamless branching extras. Upon reading some more on it, if I am interpreting this part of the guide correctly:
If a number is listed in multiple PGCs them I'm afraid you'll have to go the hard way (seamless branching titles are the most popular ones requiring processing by VOB ID).
Then the VTS where the video is again located shows me, upon opening in IfoEdit, the following PGC structure, which looks the same as in the guide:
PGC_1 Used VOB-IDs: 1,5
PGC_2 Used VOB-IDs: 2,5
PGC_3 Used VOB-IDs: 3,5
PGC_4 Used VOB-IDs: 4,5
There is nothing other than blackness in VOB 5 (checked in VOBrator, again) nor are there any other PGC's, and upon stripping VOB 2 (the video), the entire VTS, upon checking in IfoEdit, is useless, and the VOB filesize has changed from ~90 Megs to 100k.
Am I correct in thinking this is an example of seamless branching?

I figured out using VOB Blanker would let me remove the PGC of the Moby Video and allow that VTS to still play properly.
Other issues with this movie I'm able to solve using IfoEdit...this doesn't seem to be like ANY other movie I've ripped, but then again, I've only ripped 9 thus far :D
