I'm just curious, what kind of formats does it play? So far, I know that it's able to play MPEG-4 AVC and AAC, but what about ASP? It sounds odd that it isn't capable of playing ASP because ASP is less CPU heavy and usually has higher compatibility. What about HE AAC? Or is it just able to play LC AAC? ATRAC-3 is also one of the formats, right? And if I'm not wrong, mp3 too? What's the maximum resolution? Like, is 480x272 the highest resolution it can decode, or is it possible to decode, let's say, a 720x576 PAL MPEG-4 AVC/5.1 AAC movie with xxxx bitrate? I'd like some more technical details on the PSP's video/audio decoding capabilities. An official link to Sony confirming the specifications would be nice.

It sounds odd unless you considder they might have a dedicated DSP for AVC and not rely on the general purpose CPU.

I would be pretty confident that it will not handle full resolution video etc. That is just not what is was made for. It is a frugal portable system that is being made to play back content made for it. It might be capable of a bit more. But not to much more I suspect.
