Is there a tool to tell HE an LC AAC files apart, like for example Mr QuestionMan 0.6 which I use for MP3's?
I wouldn't like to install the CODEC's/filters listed in Q20 of the AAC FAQ (3ivx and CoreAAC DS filter) and I don't use foobar2000.

Thank you.

If you use mpc you don't need to install any codecs cause it comes with AAC decoding built in.

mp4box can tell you with the "-info" option if a stream is he-aac, if its so it will mention "SBR" like here:
MPEG-4 Audio AAC LC - 2 Channels - SampleRate 22050 - SBR SampleRate 44100

Had to put my files into MP4 containers first, a little bit of a pain, used Winamp, what other tool would you suggest for such a task (AAC->MP4 and maybe even M4A)?
Isn't mp4UI a tad buggy still for example?

mp4box is mainly a .mp4 tool, therefore the -info switch only works for .mp4 (and propably .3gp too) :)

with "it supports .aac" i meant it can mux raw aac into .mp4

Allow me to ask a couple more questions please:
-is mp4UI still too buggy?
-does MP4box support wilcards and/or batch muxing?

.aac into .mp4 muxing should work fine

-does MP4box support wilcards and/or batch muxing?mp4box has to be handled via commandlines :)

foobar2000 seems to be able to identify AAC encoders too.

@bond: Thanks a lot for your help. By "wildcards" I meant the "*" character for the command line to have it mux more files in a directory.

@obieobieobie: Care to provide more info and maybe a screenshot too?
