Hi, I'm new to DVD making, but I've been encoding MPEG4 since 02. From time to time I use a tv card to record movies from tv, and that card gives me a mpeg-2 file. OK. I know what I do if I want to make DivX/XVid of it, but what do I do if I want to make a DVD? The file has to be trimmed here and there, and I have used AVisynth for that when I'm making DivX - but what do I do when I want it to be a DVD?

Hi,

to cut the MPEG, use Cuttermaran (www.cuttermaran.de/frameset.htm). Then, you have to author the MPEG to obtain the BUP, IFO and VOB files, which you can burn.
There are many authoring programs available. It depends on your needs (menu, subtitles, more than 1 video / audio track, etc.) which ones you should get.

Thanks, I tried that now, but my file has the extension .mpg while Cuttermaran looked for .mpv or m2v.

You can load your compliant mpeg into an authoring program such as Tmpgenc dvd author and trim out the video parts you don't want. Then save the output to your hard drive to view before burning or if using win 2k/xp you can burn directly to your dvd burner.

Yeah, right, I always forget to say that.
Cuttermaran needs the elementary streams, means the video and the audio in separate files. So, you need to demultiplex your MPG file (means: extract the video and audio files from the MPG file). Then just load the video file into Cuttermaran, and Cuttermaran will automatically load the respective audio file.
