View Full Version : FIREFOX's Download 'Manager'.

Firefox opens a 'Downloads' window that contains:
1. Icon of the File Type
2. File name
3. How many KBs of How many MBs at what speed; how much time remains
4. 'Cancel' link
5. 'Pause' link.
In case of shut-down or broken internet link, the next time this window is opened, the same file is visible. There is no way, however, to restart the download from where it had stopped. One has to download the file from the beginning again.
What kind of a download 'manager' is that? Or maybe I haven't found out the right thing yet?
Regards.

It does "manage" your "downloads" ;)its alot better than IE(last time i looked) it reemmbers your downloads, whixh is alot of better, if your are used to resuming etc, try https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&id=220
(you need flashget though)

hmm. another thing is that the download window for some reason takes absolutely too long to come up. it can tie up FF for over a minute on occasion, with 100% CPU usage. if i tell it to not bring up the window, it's fast again. Mozilla never did this.
i haven't posted a bug report for this, i'm embarrased to say. and it's way too late at night right now...

Thanks for the FlashGot link! For me it was a major negative point about Firefox that it wouldn't support the "download all" option from FlashGet!
downloading many links from a page one after another Firefox sometimes just forgets to add one or more to the download window.

What I need a d/l manager for once in a while is the forementioned "save all" function in Flashget. Instead of clicking on each link, you just right-click "save all", then you get a list with all the target files from the links on the site and you can choose them all or by file extension. Don't need it too often, but sometimes it's nice to have that function!

Yes its not always about connection speeds, if you connect to poor servers etc, a downlaod manager is very useful. Even though i am on a 2mbs, i still use a download manager, for the reasons theReal mentioned.
@theReal i also find "down them all" to be pretty good for the task:
https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&category=Download%20Tools&numpg=10&id=201
it's uses firefox's built in downloader though.

would be great if firefox (or download manager) could support curl or wget.
