View Full Version : Last chapter of backup freezes

Suddenly almost every DVD backup I make freezes near the end of the last chapter, usually minutes before the movie ends. I am using the same media that I always use, Fujifilm –R 8X. The movie plays fine from the hard drive. It makes no difference if I manually burn it( at any speed) from the latest Nero software or if I let Shrink 3.2 automatically burn it through Nero.I have also ripped with DVD Decriptor with the same results. Are my settings in Nero incorrect possibly? Not only am I a newbie but I can barely turn on a computer. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

hi,

this is pretty much a shot in the dark, but just because the media is branded the same doesn't mean it's the same media. quite a few retailers of dvd media use different manufacturers and therefore one patch of blank media might just work perfectly with your burner and another one doesn't. the only way to find out if my assumption is true is to take one disk that you are positive that worked and another one from the 'bad' stack. get the media code for both of them* and compare it.

if they are the same, i guess i was wrong, if they're not it's a pretty safe bet you got some incompatible media... btw on below mentioned page you can also check compatibilty reports from other users regarding your burner / media combination

*) there's a couple of free programs to do that, you can get them here (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia) (top of the page)

Steve,
Thanks for the fast reply. How or where do I find these codes?

Another shot in the dark....

Gunzrus, try this, lower the size of your dvd disk inside DVDshrink's option and set it to 4460mb and cross your fingers. Read somewhere that the edge of a disk is not very well made....

Your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks Guys,
I think that it was a hardware issue... Installed new Sony dual-layer burner and its smokin!

Thanks again,
Dave

i have a similar problem.

my local retailer tells me the problem of this type is the dvd player, not the media.

i have a samsung s 224 and he says/ no swears it is the player as i have the same problem.

i may change players as he says a cheap
$60.00 player does play all media much
better than the more expensive samsung.

i suggest you also consider and try a different player.

of course it _can_ be the player too... specific standalone/media incompatibility issues are unfortunately also rather common... anyway, to solely blame it on the media is definitely not the right way to go...

before exchanging your player i would go to the store with a problem disk and demand a 'tryout'!
