Hello,
I don't know where to put this question so I decided to put it here. A friend of mine has made a movey with a videorecorder. It was a MPEG or AVI file, I don't know what exactly. He also has it on a DVD for presentations. Accidentally he deleted the MPEG file which he can't get back. Now he only has a version on a DVD which contains VOB files. He wants to be able to play this DVD on his laptop for his presentations. Is it possible to convert these VOB files in such a way that it is possible to play them with his laptop? Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Guido

Easy solution, get a software DVD player such as WinDVD. Put the disk in the laptop's DVD drive and play it.
Next solution, rip the DVD files to disk and play them from there.
If you want to convert to AVI or decrypted MPEG2, then it's a different ballgame. Use DVDDecrypter and DGMPGDec.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. Wants to be able to play the film right from his harddrive because when he plays it from his DVD player the spinning of the cd makes too much noise during a presentation. So my question is, is it possible to put those VOB files on his harddrive and play them from there? Or is it only possible to play them from a DVD? I asked if it was possible to convert them to MPEG or AVI so he will be able to play them with his mediaplayer right from his harddrive. So the main objective is to be able to play the film right from his harddrive while we now only have a DVD with the VOB files. He can watch the whole movey from the DVD but that makes too much noise and he won't be able to edit it when he wants to.
Thanks,
Guido

I told you the answer already. Was there something you didn't understand?

'Rip' DVD with DVD decrypter in File Mode to hard drive.
Then you can playpack from there with some software like Power DVD, Win DVD, Media Player Classic . Last proggy is even free...
I'm not sure is correct to say term 'rip' when we talking about transferring decrypted files from DVD to hard drive.

i very much doubt the VOBs are encrypted to begin with... neither DVD-R nor DVD+R can carry CSS. DVD-R's specially for authoring can though (edit: but no burners can burn it). not sure about DVD+R DL, but i doubt it (and home authoring software certainly wont support CSS - it costs buckets to license).
so you could probably just copy the files straight off the disc - DVD-ROM with no CSS is basically a UDF disc with a certain file structure.

Right Meg Funky, but it's not specified what type of DVD is in question.
And even for DVD R is best to use DVD Decrypter, for plain copy of files.
