I believe however that this is the wrong forum to discuss that this stuff, and this topic will be moved :D

nero produces 100% mpeg-4 spec compliant .mp4 files, which you can stream with any tool that can stream .mp4 files, eg apples free darwin streaming server

Could you tell me more free streaming servers (for linux and windows) which can work with .mp4 AVC files?

mp4live from mpeg4ip and a streaming server from vitooki, but i doubt they handle avc

if you want to stream mpeg-4 use mpeg-4 part2 streams as elias wrote, as afaik the only server that handles avc for sure is from envivio, but its not available for free

I was more thinking of these settings, but with pass through for audio/video. This ought to do the job just perfect, if the input mp4 is XviD/LC AAC?

qt only handles simple profile streams

you can use qt for hinting .mp4 files or also other tools, like mp4box or mp4creator, which also handle advanced simple profile

From the official site. For some weird reason, all QuickTime Pro MPEG-4 encoded and MPEG-4 pass through mp4 files become Advanced Simple Profile :) At least when shown in mp4UI. Speaking of mp4UI, when is he going to fix that Quicktime bug we talked about?

it seems you detected a failure in mpeg4ips profile detection code, mp4box correctly detects SP@L1 :)
i already wrote a message to the mpeg4ip dev

about the qt issue: it seems it would be enough if the mp4ui dev would update to the latest mpeg4ip sources, but he seems to be too busy :(

qt correctly signals in the ESDS that its SP@L1 (which is what mp4box reads out), mp4ui/mp4info reads out the IODS which falsely signals ASP@L3b
IODS and ESDS should signal the same, therefore qt is buggy here

you might want to send apple a hatemail :D

You know, to speed up his work with mp4UI. Because mp4UI is a great tool, and it needs to be as bugfree as possible.

you might want to send apple a hatemail :D Hehe, like they'd care :) I doubt that they're interested in whatever we have to say :) So, my question is then: it isn't safe to use the Quicktime Pro MPEG-4 pass through? I haven't noticed any bugs whatsoever when using this, and the output mp4 files have never worked better than with the QuickTime Pro MPEG-4 Pass Through. At least for me.

well it signals the wrong profile/level in the iods, i doubt a player will care about that
it might be a problem signalling an ASP stream as SP, but the other way round...
