len0x, can you add a hidden option to set the max resolution? I know there is a setting in the advance options, but you can only set min or max resolution. I ask this because my Philips DVP632/02 can only play DivX (MPEG4) ASP @ 640x480 max resolution. I usually set min resolution to 512, but sometimes it gets over 640, like 672 and even 704/720.
It would be a great to have such a setting in the hidden options, like create a .max[horyzontal res] (e.g. ".max640"), just like the sharp matrix setting does.

Why not use just max setting? Min setting is not supposed to be used regulary anyway (only for specific sources when you're ready to accept quality below normal). For usual encode resolution should not go below 512 anyway coz otherwise you're not giving enough bitrate to the video...

this brings up a nice issue....what resolution is "best"...that is the most compatible with nearly all machines....I usually let AutoGK set it itself as my Philips player plays anythings.
Maybe you could add a "Safe" setting for resoultion that would ensure the most compatible "playability"....just a thought...my 0.00000000000000000000005 cents worth :D

Hello MSlv,
The 640x*** concept is interesting. Is it a specification of the hardware (Philipps DVP632) or did you get this info by another(s) user or is it your experience?
I ask this because there is a related topic: max bitrates without stutters in standalone, specially the ones with the ess vibrato chip (philipps ???) and there are no reliable max bitrates given; the one given by the specs is 4000 kbp/s near instant (on a short period xx seconds?)
So if the 640x*** is a reliable max limit it would be a greaaaaaaaat step forward :)
Thanks for sharing infos.

my phillips 642 plays any resoultion...but again a lower "most compatible" resolution would be cool

I had no idea that this was of any importance. Anyway, here's from the instructions manual:
-MPEG-4 disc on CD-R(W):
-Simple profile
-Advanced simple profile (640-480)
-DivX(R) disc on CD-R(W):
-DivX 3.11, 4.x, 5.x
-GMC (Global Motion Compensation) and Q-Pel (Quarter Pixel) not supported

Thank you for the info,
With my H&B 3220dx SAP 640*xxx is a good average max resolution to test the stutters limit which is given for 6000 kbp/s near instant for my SAP;
It is down to 624*xxx for LOTRIII and up to 656*xxx for one of the starwars, another being exactly 640*xxx.
How do I test it? I try a 1/3 DVD (1493kb) with the original ac3 audio, burn a DVD+RW, play on my SAP and if stuttering go down 100 or 150Kb and so on.It was a little more complicated with LOTR III (624*xxx ,1/2 DVD) but I now know the limit is around 640*xxx .
This is why I am waiting (as do a few others SAP owners) for AGK to support the DXN HT PAL or NTSC profiles. There are other thread related to read if interested :)

Ok, I tested a 720*xxx and my 632 played it fine. But this doesn't mean it works with all: the movie I tested was Star Wars Episode I, encoded with DivX 3, at a bitrate of ~500 kbps.

:)
We share the sames problems
My resolution for that episode was 640*272, 1.56Go (with ac3 6ch), global bitrate 1243kbp/s
