There are loads of dvd cloning and reducing app's for windows, but there does not apear to be any for linux.
If this is the case can someone explain why in the biggest open source programing community around no one has come up with a single project to do this.
Surely all it takes is portin QuEnc to linux and a few other app's and writing a GUI (i don't know i'm not a programer)
If there is an app to do this then ignore my rant and let me know where it is.

Well there are plenty of main movie backup tools for linux, transcoding or full compression. However you are right there is no easy to use full disc backup tool for linux. Part of the reason for this might be that people of the linux crowd in general aren't usually interested in menus and extras. But there are open source transcoding libraries available, all that's needed to have a native DVDShrink like app is someone with the programming ability and some knowledge of DVDs.

What app's are there for main movie backup, i take it it's like dvd9 to dvd5?
I'm in the process of moving (slowly) to Linux but the DVD backup is the only thing tying me to XP.

you can also use DVDshink under Wine emulation just rip the dvd before with your favourite rip tool.

Actually in my experience if you want a full disc backup you need to let dvdshrink do the ripping - I haven't seen a version of wine yet where the 'Open Files' dialogue in DVDShrink works correctly. And DVDShrink's ripper works fine under wine for encrypted discs (using win2k version emulation).

Yep, at the moment, DVDShrink is about the best you can do in Linux for straight DVD copying. What would be interesting would be a linux version of ReJig. It's been a while since Nic worked on ReJig, but the last version was pretty good.
