View Full Version : DivX or XviD in AutoGK

I noticed in AutoGK's update log that at some point they switched to DivX as the default encoder, and then back to XviD. Is there any rationale for that, apart from XviD being easier to include free with the installer?
I've noticed that XviD tends to make colors more vibrant, while DivX keeps the colors closer to the original DVD's (although I LIKE the vibrant colors)

DivX was never default codec in AutoGK...

You answered it already: DivX is a commercial product...

Nah, I meant my original question as to whether one was consistantly better/worse than the other... I guess I was fairly vague with what i was asking.

Hey, sorry about that. I didn't intent to ask a redundant question, however, I really don't think I fell under the catagory of #12
I was asking a very specific question about the vibrance of colors in DivX vs XviD.
It seems to me that this question isn't a situation where "the best is whatever works best for you". How is asking about a specific aspect of a codec's performance the same as asking "what color is better, blue or purple?" If you're comparing two cars, asking about which of them handles corners better, isn't akin to asking which of the two is "best"
It seems like everyone is so pre-occupied with writing and redirecting to FAQs, that nobody reads posts anymore.

Well I was referring to this (where you didn't mention any color issues, so by default I assumed the codec):
Nah, I meant my original question as to whether one was consistantly better/worse than the other...
Sorry, but I still don't understand how one color can be objectively better than the other... The reason no one is replying - its wrong forum for such question. If you go to XviD forum and ask something like "I noticed that XviD changes color gamut comparing to the original. Is that expected?" you may be able to get some techical answers about that. Here we are not doing comparison of any aspects of codecs. Its AutoGK/GK related forum and I already told you that the only reason XviD is default codec its because its bundled for free. If DivX was producing very bad quality rips it would not be supported in the first place.
