i have a ND 3500 with the newest firmware (2.18). ihave tried backing up 2 different dvd's on both Sony DVD+R and Fuji DVD-R using DVD Shrink 3.2 to compress the DVD's and then I tried both Nero 6.6 and DVD Decryptor to burn. I managed to get the whole DVD on the disc and can play it on my PC if I open up the file through WinDVD first, but the problem is when the disc is first inserted into either my DVD burner or other PC DVD player or try clicking on either of the drive icons when the disc is already in. The error message: This file does not have a program assosciated with it for performing this acion. Create and association in the Folder Options control panel. I think this error message will lead to the root of the problem as none of these DVD's will play in any of my standalone players either. (I have checked the compatability and everything there checks out) Does anybody have any idea what this error message means and/or how to fix it. I'm sick of making coasters and ready to start backing up please help. Thanks.

Hi Bryantj, welcome to the forum. I am speculating that your dvdshrink result is NO good, as in NOT dvd compliant. Yes, you can right click on any of the file within that folder or disk and have that file be played by WINdvd, but, for lack of decription, your dvd files are not structurely sound.

Try this (not 100%) test: try opening your already shrunk folder with DVDshrink and see if it protest or not. I'm betting it will.

P.S. a properly shrunk folder WILL be played by your WINdvd, as if it is a dvd disk.
