Ok, will change that on the next release, in the meantime people can rename avi2raw.exe to avi2raw60.exe to get the GUI working.

I think this new "AutoAC" application should have it's own thread?

Perhaps bond could get it right this time :D

Saw your sreenshot: Hybrid gain is not ok for aac in BeSweet. You have to choose pregain and normalizationn to 100% :) See discussion with kurtnoise in the BeLight threat.

The gui does not output aac directly from besweet. It does normalization, dynamic range control, dplii downmix and outputs to wav, faac does the aac compression.

i seem to just get to the first part where it starts to scanning the dvd files, and it just freezes there and under processes it shows its not responding and is taking up 100% cpu power :(

EDIT: i now know you cant use spaces in folder name, i changed the name of the folder and it is ok now :)

EDIT2: now it stops after the audio encoding and gives an error window.

also i cant open the X264 tab to config the codec setting, this is probably the reason for above. dont know why,the tab clicks down but nothing opens. if i go into vdub and open the codec tab it opens fine and i can open the x264 codec and set the thing up there ok.

I don't understand one thing:
what's the x.264 settings for? you said it is a one-click solution. Does this mean that if I check "single pass - bitrate" it will only use 1 pass or what? I have to decide the advanced settings my self? Is the aac stereo or 5.1?

No, it's always a 2-pass encode, you can change x264 like b-frames etc. AAC is stereo

p.s. One-click meaning easy and everything is done automatically. If it was literally one-click you would only start the gui i suppose (no, sorry even that needs a double-click) :).

this is what I get from MKVmerge:
Error: 'D:\DVD Temp 2\jay-z.mp4': The video track does not start with a key frame but contains B frames. This is not supported.
And BSPlayer gived me this error:
List index out of bounds (0)

Could something be wrong with your GUI? Why is this happening? I have the latest ffdshow and I also have the 3ivX decoder pack which contains a mp4 splitter, right? I also have nero showtime and nero media player.

I don't think there's something wrong with the GUI, i'm using standard procedures to create mp4 files with AVC/AAC streams.
3ivX splitter does not support AVC in mp4 streams yet.
Try Osmo4 player from GPAC project, Mplayer or the LATEST nero showtime.
Did you manage to encode video and audio with my gui ?

Did you manage to encode video and audio with my gui ? [/B]
Yes, I had no problems encoding the video/audio. I only have problems with the decoding part.
3ivX splitter does not support AVC in mp4 streams yet.
Yes, I've found that out the hard way.
Try Osmo4 player from GPAC project, Mplayer or the LATEST nero showtime.
I already got the latest nero showtime, but it says
Due to patent license restrictions, H.264/AVC decoding is not available. This feature can be added by installing the Nero 6 Ultra Edition retail package or the Web version. Could this be because I updated the Nero OEM package that came with my DVD Writer? I'm getting Osmo4 now.

Do you think you can add an option to select the output container yourself, with choises like
1 .mp4
2 .mkv
3 .avi
? that would be more than nice.
edit: tried oslo4 and it didn't work. It just froze to death.

mezzanine
5th March 2005, 19:17
AVC in avi is not a good idea, MP4 is the way to go.
There are other tools to output x264 in avi or mkv.

Make sure you download the latest osmo4 build
you can find it here:
http://www.aziendeassociate.it/cd.asp?dir=/gpac
or mplayer found here:
http://www.aziendeassociate.it/cd.asp?dir=/mplayer

PLEASE!!! Can you promise me you'll add another container for output in your future builds? I have AVC in avi and it works perfect!
Pretty please? I can't sleep tonight if you don't tell me yes or no...:D

bond
5th March 2005, 20:16
avc-in-avi is not perfect at all
you will get dummy frames in the stream, which dont belong there, you will loose frames and you will get a delay between audio and video in .avi (especially with the new b-frame mode in x264, which allows the useage of b-frames as references)

learn how to use .mp4 or .mkv (you can easily transmux from .mp4 to .mkv with mkvmerge) and learn to stop being used to .avi ;)

ok i run kaspersky and after shutting it down, i did get the codec window to pop up once. now after re-opening AutoAC it wont open again, even with AV off?

i set the codec to defaults the first time, and it ran all the way through, but i still get this:

Found total frames of the movie: 0

right after the crop avs is made, this is on 2 different dvd sources?
also if i choose "automatic resolution" the program errors at "System.IO.FileNotFoundException: File 'E:\!DVDs_Decrypted\smalldvdfortesting\movieonly.avi' not found.", but if i choose the res myself then it runs all the way to the end. but its not finding any frames so i dont know?

its not autocrop as it runs through ok with that on or off,its only when i check auto resolution that i get that error.

i am running on an A64 amd setup if that makes any difference.

EDIT: i ran the same exact files, dvd source, on my Athlon1800+ server box and it all went as it should. i now have a .mp4 result which works in nero showtime2. so its my main encoding box which is the problem, but both systems are running winXPsp2, both have kaspersky AV/outpost firewall etc.. codec config box opens fine aswell on the server box.

damn and its no good as i cant run these encodes on that box as its used for other things. and its way way way slower than my a64 setup.

i will keep looking tho and let you know if i find the problem, heres the log from the server:

I wish i had an A64 to test the gui, i only have a poor old celeron@1800. I can't find out what's wrong, i suppose it's avs2avi maybe you could help me out and try to do some encodes from cli and see what's going on with it, if you don't know how to do it send me a pm and i'll send you a small guide.
Thanks you are really helping me here, i don't know if you are the only one using my gui or the only one that had problems so far.

You can use GK for avi or mkv containers, but as bond said you should not mux AVC in avi, mkv is a very good container if you want to avoid MP4. I would like to have the option of container selection but that takes time and my free time is limited.
There are many players capable of MP4 playback with AVC/AAC and if they don't work for you i'm sure a directshow splitter with AVC support will be available soon.

I tested out AutoAC build 030205 with a 93 minute movie. I first analyzed it with DGIndex and found that it was 29.97 fps, FILM, progressive. So I checked the "Forced Film" option in AutoAC and left everything else on the default. After about an 8 or 9 hour encode, I opened the resulting video in Media Player Classic to find that it had 93 minutes of audio, but only 74 minutes of video. So the video had the correct number of frames for a 23.976 fps video, but it was being played at 29.97 fps. I've been using Gordian Knot to make XviD and x264 videos for a while, and have never had this problem. Was this a bug in the program or something I did wrong?

JoeBG

Maybe it would help to demux the video from mp4 and remux it with the correct framerate. If the videostream-number is 1 or 3 (you can easily check this with mp4ui) you can load the video to mp4muxer (http://mp4muxer.movie2digital.com/) and he will do all this for you automatically. You just have to set a flag to 29.97 in the settings dialog :)

You probably did something wrong because if it was 29.97 it's not film, film is 23.976. You should have left it to auto, that way the d2v is analyzed and if it is film for more than 94% a new d2v is created with force film.
AutoAC does set the frag for framerate when muxing.

But just to be sure i will have a look at my code and double-check that the flag for film during muxing is working.

mezzanine
6th March 2005, 12:19
No, sorry i just checked the code and it's my mistake. The framerate flag was not passed if you set force film manually.
It will be fixed in the next build.

I would like to have the option of container selection but that takes time and my free time is limited. An it's not like the tools he's using offer AVI muxing (I've been thinking about AVI output with audio in MeGUI as well but discarded it for the same reasons).

mezzanine, could you also provide a pack with the needed tools?
I ask this coz there are different builds and versions of the tools you mentioned in the first post and not all builds/versions works with your app.
Also it would be nice for newbies to have everything at "one click distance".
So if you provide a pack with working versions of the tools along with an installer will be a great move :)

It gives an option to select which subtitles you want to rip from the source, then outputs *.idx and *.sub files(http://rapidshare.de/files/833344/AutoACsub.gif.html), there is also an option to include vobsub filesize in the output calculations.

I am begining to doubt AutoAC's capabilities to find the proper AR. I compressed a music clip which was 4:3 AR, and the final resolution was 464x336. But that means an AR of ~1.38, while 4:3 should be around 1.33. So that means an AR error of ~4%.
I encoded the same clip with AutoGK, and the res was 400x304, which means ~1.31, basically a 2% error in AR, which is better than AutoAC's 4%.

Great, can't wait for next build!

Also, it seems AutoAC doesn't work with DTS, which is a shame. DTS is more uncompressed than AC3 so the output quality should be better, right? DTS is encoded at bitrates over 700 kbps, while AC3 sticks with 384-448 for 5.1 audio.
Is this right?

You have the choice between 5.1 AAC and Stereo AAC. A downmix to stereo is easy in mplayer.

1)It would be great if you could use x264 cli for direct avs to mp4 encoding instead of avs2avi,x264 vfw and avi2raw.I know it would require much work because it would require to write your own GUI for x264 settings and to use custom commandlines :(

Besweet can detect delay and cut it.You are mistaken.. BeSweet can correct delays (in the positive or negative sense), but if you want to cut an audio stream, you need besplit ;) Besweet can process only a part of the source though, using the -split() parameter.

mezzanine was refering to delay detection though.. besweet cannot do that. Without demuxing, the only way to get the delay is if it's provided as input.. for instance from the info file DVD Decrypter can create.

opsis81
23rd April 2005, 19:55
Didn't know that Doom9.:)
But there is no reason to detect or cut the audio delay anyway.
"If you used DVD2AVI, which is the most common way, the delay is in the filename. If you are using besweet in vob input mode, you just need to use -ota ( -d auto ) in your command line."
These are exact words of KpeX.He is an audio guru,he knows better:)

I've downloaded 7-z. Thanks. I've also downloaded WinRAR v 3.5b3. Now unpacking downloaded AutoAC archive is no problem.

1. AutoAC needs .Net framework 1.1; will .Net framework redistributable v2.0 do?

2. How do I install x264vfw.dll?

Is there something strange in the folder/file structure in there? A quick solution is to run the dvd through DVDShrink (no compression) and then use autoAC.

Thanks.

@mezzanine, I suggest you put the version and build name also in the filename instead of just AutoAC_Setup.exe. e.g: AutoAC_v0.11b040705_Setup.exe. It will be much easier for people like me who like to keep the setup.exe of multiple builds on their harddrive to downgrade if the latest version proves to be unstable for any reason. I know I can rename the files myself, but still...

oh... i missed the new version.I'm sorry, it's not quite out yet.. I'm currently refactoring the code.. the one click window will not be a lot more than many GUI elements reusing all the existing code from the other windows (notably autoencode and d2v creator). I hope to finish it tonight (I had a running version yesterday but it was based on old code and didn't offer all the existing functionality on other modes and naturally I'd like this thing to be as complete and based on code for which there hasn't been a bugreport yet).

Updating AutoAC every now and then takes less time.well.. you're looking at some potentially significant changes if you change the whole framework ;) And there's no binding commitment.. people come and go and I can just take over work that was once started. E.g. a lot of the redesign was done as a non functional prototype and I integrated it.. or the new mp4box muxer was delivered as a self contained prototype that I adapted. Either way I'm happy for any help that I can get.. be it code, design or whatnot. E.g. you've been doing one click from the getgo so you might've made some experience that berrinam and me are about to make with the new release, etc.

Auto deinterlace is using decomb to distinguish progressive and interlaced frames and apply field-deinterlace respectively.
4:3 sources and NTSC sources with 29.97 fps, have auto-deinterlace selected.

Yes vstrip is used to parse movie info.

There is no guide, sorry. Just use file mode and it should work. If you want to resize the movie to widescreen/letterbox (e.g. 640:272) before encoding you should choose 16:9, 1:1 keeps the resolution of the dvd (720:576 for pal) and the resizing is done in playback.

@mezzanine: I wanted to check if you've already implemented your new GUI with the preview (it's something I've been thinking about myself, if you havn't already perhaps we could work on this together), but it seems the installer is missing some files as I get an IOException right out of the box. All the debugger can tell me in the absence of the source code is:

File or assembly name Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility, or one of its dependencies, was not found. I do have VS.NET installed including the SDK so I presume I would be more likely to have everything needed to run a .NET app, but I guess this will only run if I installed VB.NET into my VS as well.

Yes it does.. but I was thinking more along the lines of DVD Shrink or Recode that can preview PGCs.

That's what i had in mind too.. Only way i can think of now is demuxing a small part of each pgc (say 50 mb) with vstrip and creating a d2v project and avs script respectively. Then using the windows media player component on a form do the preview.
I've already done vb code (using vstrip) to analyze all the vts's and pgc's of a disc and put them in a treeview.

Doom9
8th August 2005, 12:14
I've been thinking about something different: Use DirectShow to create a very simple DVD player that can jump to a PGC when it's being selected in the treeview (or whatever other graphical display is going to be used in the end). Then only if the user decides he wants a certain PGC, will a DGIndex project be created - and only for the VOB IDs in question. And depending on how flexible vobinput.dll is, audio demuxing might not even be necessary, thus allowing the output creation without any intermediate files on the input end. I don't much like demuxing just for preview purposes so I'd like to avoid that. I realize that this would make things somewhat more complex, but on the upside, I'd know how to handle DirectShow afterwards so I think it would be a good learning experience.

There is the MsVidWebDVD object, but i couldn't make it play certain pgc's. Only basic functions seem to work (play, stop, chapters etc).
I wonder how FilmShrink previews pgc's....(probably d2v)

Doom9
8th August 2005, 14:09
FilmShrink uses a special version of DGIndex.. it also indexes first before preview. But considering DVD Shrink and Recode can do it without, and considering all the software DVD players that allow you to select a PGC to be played, it should be doable. I'm going to open a thread in the dev forum to see if somebody has done this before.

I'm over it. I needed permanent subs anyway. So now I have some bug reports.

All of these are random so I can not reproduce it:

1) If I'm encoiding a video and it is on the compressing audio stage it used to freeze. I have yet to experience it with the new verisons, but it sill may be there.

2) Happnened two nights ago. The encoding froze on the first pass, but the program was fully responsive. EVerything was working ti just stopped encoding, but acted like it was.

3) Happened 5 minutes ago. I awoke to hopefully a complete 2nd try of Return of the King and when I get there it says MP4Box has performed an illegal operation and must close. Damn it was so close. When I tried playing the movie, it still made one, it said it was not a valid movie file.

The last two are on 0.19 and the first was on somewhere around 0.15.

Well i don't have access to any HDTV ts files so i can't do any testing.
If i had even a small sample (trailer) i could probably find a way to automate the process.

Any problems to download the clip?

1 - 2 Is your cpu overclocked or something ? Sounds like a cpu problem.

3 Did you have enough disk-space?

Thanks for the feedback

Nope it's just the a normal P4. It doesn't happen anymore, but I was justing trying to hepl you out. And yeah I have ennough space because I got like 80 gbs. Ohh well I tried it again and it worked.

Hey also mezzaine can you make a similar app or incorporate something in for the PSP? Here's the link to the x264 PSP thing. http://x264.nl/psp/x264-psp.exe

If you set X264 settings that are compatible with the psp you can use AutoAC.
If you allready now the specs for PSP-mp4 i can make something like a profile for quick selection.

Yeah a profile sounds nice. It just needs to be at a screen size of a multiple of 116 and no more than 76800 pixels squared. With your autocrop function here are the widths I use right now.

2.40:1 Movie = 384 Width

2.35:1 Movie = 432 Width

1.85:1 Movie = 384 Width

For other settings I just use make it 420 mb. It comes out very nice. If you make a new release and put in a quick selection for PSP I'll test it and give you some feedback of what more is needed and what is good.

Hi,

I am cheking out the AutoAC to encode a DVD for streaming via Darwin. I encoded a file and added 2 hint tracks using mp4creator, and copied it to streaming server directory. I am able to watch the movie using latest snapshot of vlc, but not with quicktime. I guess this has to do with some settings of x264. any idea which settings to enable/disable to get to stream to quicktime clients.

After optimising the file using mp4creator -optimize streaming using http from apache (played using quicktime plugin) works well.

Commands I used are:

mp4creator -hint=1 Desktop.mp4
mp4creator -hint=2 Desktop.mp4

mp4info Desktop.mp4
mp4info version 1.3.5
Desktop.mp4:
Track Type Info
1 video H264 Main@4, 97.760 secs, 421 kbps, 704x304 @ 25.000000 fps
2 audio MPEG-4 AAC LC, 97.856 secs, 84 kbps, 48000 Hz
3 hint Payload H264 for track 1
4 hint Payload mpeg4-generic for track 2
Metadata Tool: mp4creator 1.3.5

Using default settings of X264 should be ok.

I will try and hint the file using quicktime also. Hinting with mp4creator does not work :(

Something is going wrong during mp4 muxing. I will add a checkbox to keep .264 and .aac files in case something goes wrong (you can multiplex these files ourself using YAMB or MP4BoxGUI).

Hi, yesterday I've installed AutoAC 0.20, with all latest software.
I've got a prob: it doesn't open IFO files..
It says: "No IFO file selected".
I rip DVDs with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, and I am sure they are correct IFO files.
Just for a try, I ripped Matrix, the movie and the specials, because I knew they worked well with other software, but this does't read them.
Is there any known problem about this?
Thanks.

Are you running any anti-virus app with script blocking ?

mod

No, I don't.
I have AVG Free and Zone Alarm Free. This means that scripts are not blocked.
Just for a control I also tried without ANY other software running, but I still have this problem.

You reckon this would work in a VMWare Session?
Reason I ask is I have no idea what files/codecs etc are installed on this current install of XP.

Granted VM Session would be slower, I have 2gig of ram so ram wont be a problem, just cpu ;)

Anyway I reckon it'll work, just makes it easier to have the right versions and no conflicts.

Thanks for the 1 click solution, cbf laerning all the switches and doing it manualy atm ;)

No idea, give it a try.

Well it works but you can't pause the virtual machine to say reboot the host :P

Whenyou resume cpu usage goes to 100% but nothing gets done, this might be because the source files were on a network share (i didn't bother making a virtual disk big enough and adding it), I reckon that when I resume, vmware isn't quick enough to re-establish the network connections and open evrything up again. It might work if everyting is local....

Will ty that next, but there is no reason why this can't be done in a vm session.

Cheers ;)

Hi,

Just tried hinting a autoAC encoded mp4 file with quicktime 7.0.2 and got an error. I have attached a screenshot of it.

http://img304.imageshack.us/img304/3534/tmp0im.th.png (http://img304.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tmp0im.png)

I have also attached the output of mp4dump and mp4info. Any idea why quicktime refuses to hint the file? Is my earlier posting regarding viewing an autoAC encoded mp4 file with quicktime related to this?

Got an answer to this from one guy in Apple after I posted it in quicktime list.

I believe that means the timecode in the file is corrupt. The same thing occurs
with most VLC captures. If you have a Mac available and the Apple MPEG-2
component installed ($30) you can use MPEG Streamclip for this purpose. It
works nicely - no corruption.

make sure to use the latest versions of avi2raw and mp4box (which are not the ones linked to in the first post here), but i would assume that the linked versions already create correct timecodes and the problem is caused by quicktime

Hi mezzanine!

I haven't worked with AutoAC for quite a while, so I have a question: does it use the VFW or CLI version of x264?

Hi mezzanine!

I haven't worked with AutoAC for quite a while, so I have a question: does it use the VFW or CLI version of x264?

Itīs the vfw version. He could use x264.exe and xvid_encraw.exe, but then he has to create a gui inside AutoAC for them :(

if you want to use the cli version, use MeGUI.. it does one click encoding as well ;)

It's been a long time and this gui is so outdated, have to drop vfw and add vobsubs (that'a already implemented actually, i just need to add the mux parameters).
I am considering picking it up again.

Mod please move this thread to mpeg4 encoding guis forum, thanks.

I am getting a strange error.
Aac worked for me(i.e. opened for me) when i first installed it.
Since i did not have any dvd with me at that time. I never tested it.
Now are a month or so when i try using it it gives me a strange error
screen is attached.
I redownloaded the program and reinstalled it but to no avail.
Then i downloaded dot.net 2 and installed it too.
I even downlooad .net framework 1 service pack and installed it but to no avail.
Please help
