Trying to convert a few movies to DVD and my wife needs the closed captioning to stay in tact. These are not out on DVD yet, just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

The problem is that the closed caption info is discarded when you capture, only solution is to make two captures, one with the caption dislay active, and the other turned off. Will need to capture from video out of TV after decoding has happen, not always the case with some video outs, not VCR video out.

Two links about close captions and how to capture them
Since your target is DVD, capturing them later and converting them to regular DVD subtitles should not pose a problem. But it is aparently possible to embed CC in a DVD too. (see the first link)

Most set top DVD recorders will capture the closed caption signal. Of course, you might need to look into workarounds if the recorder doesn't like recording from a copy-protected video.
