Before when i converted DV -> DivX i used deintelace filters.
Isnt better to convert it as interlaced and deinterlace it with ffdshow filters?

interlaced material compresses worse
also while encoding you can use a slower deinterlacer

I'd decide on the target display device. If it's progressive (computer monitor), then deinterlace the DV video using a good deinterlacer. If the video has to be shown on interlaced devices (TV set), then better leave it interlaced, and I'd recommend to keep it interlaced.
The best way is to record the video in progressive mode, if you ask me. But unfortunately most camcorders don't support progressive scan...

The best way is to record the video in progressive mode, if you ask me. I wouldn't say that - if you want to watch your videos on a tv screen better record interlaced or your footage will look like film (well maybe that's what you want, but also maybe not... it only looks like tv if recorded and watched interlaced!)
