Reparing Avi and other files?

Hi,

i have some errors in few of my avis, but since they are mostly dance avis, i'd like to be able to repair them, without using Virtual Dub if possible ;-)

transcode includes avifix but i am not sure how to use it,
and maybe one of you guys has a way to repair video files and could
share the knowledge

This should be possible with mencoder and -forceidx

Something like :
mencoder -forceidx -ovc copy -oac copy -o output.avi input.avi
