This seems like it should be simple...but not having a clue seems to be making it rather difficult lol. I have some mpeg files of various TV programs (superbowl, NBA Allstar game, etc) All I really wanna do is edit out the commecrials....is there a program under a hundred bux out there that will allow me to do this easily? I have a sonic program now but it doesnt seem to want to allow me to cut sections of the video out.

I haven't used it myself, but Cuttermaran (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/DigiTV/Cuttermaran%201.62.zip) is a popular MPEG-2 editor among our members.

Dunno. But Cuttermaran needs it.
You can find the link to the correct version (1.1) on the Cuttermaran Homepage (http://www.cuttermaran.de/frameset.htm).

chopperXP does it as well, but it'll be more fiddly and there's no way to cut on anything but an I-frame (with a closed GOP preceeding it).
DVDmaestro does mpeg editing to a certain extent, but (a) it's not all that elegant, (b) it's ludicrously expensive, and (c) it's been bought up by Apple and turned into DVD Studio Pro which i've never used.

I know Pinnacle Studio 8 allows you to edit frame accurately, so I assume Studio 9 does. $80

Yes. Why ? Sounds strage to you?! It's German and means "MPEG2Cut".
But well, there is also a program called MPEG2Cut, therefore, to avoid confusions, you have to stick with the original German name, which is MPEG2Schnitt.
Paste the name into google, first hit is the website of MPEG2Schnitt:
