Hi guys,

I'm pretty new to the whole dvd back up thing and have quickly come across a problem I have no idea how to fix.

I ripped "the bourne supremacy" with dvd decrypter in file mode, then re-authored with Instant Copy.

The problem I'm facing is that the scenes where there is russian dialog, there are no english subtitles. If I turn the subtitles on using the dvd player, the subtitles appear, but stay throughout the whole movie.

I was wondering if there is a separate stream for "as needed" subtitles? OR does this depend on region or any other settings?

Any help would be appreciated, I have also found this thread that had similar issues:

However, it doesn't appear that the problem has been fixed. Again, any help would be much appreciated.

There are 2 ways that these types of translation subtitles are stored.

1) They have a separate stream and this is selected by default (this info is stored in the IFO).
2) The relevant subtitles within the full english stream are flagged as forced in the VOBS. This means they will be displayed whether subtitles are enabled or not.

If 2) applies for this DVD and InstantCopy just won't retain the flag for some reason then you are in trouble, because there is no tool to re-add it to VObs.

I can't be of more help as have no experience with this problem (or indeed InstantCopy).

Thanks for the reply matthew,

It looks like I'll have to do some more reading ... Or maybe I should use a different method for my dvd backups ...

Thanks again!
