Xvid and Gknot

I usually divx and gknot when I love my AVS, but today when I tried using Xvid for the first time in Gknot I gave Gknot a file size of about 20MB but Xvid ignored that and the file size came out to 80MB instead. Why? Since this is my first time using Xvid I'm sure I'm missing something.
