Incomplete encoded AVI

Hello to all,

I am using DivX 5.2.1 Pro and GK 0.34.8 Beta for my encoding. For some days now I am trying to encode a couple of movies, target sizes are 1400 MB and 700 MB (for first movie and second movie respectively). Encoding finishes normally according to GK's log file, but both encoded AVIs are far from the target sizes. First movie results in a filesize of about 800 MB only and second one is only 200-250 MB. Moreover, when I open them in Media Player, I cannot skip forward or backwards since they only have 2 keyframes! Audio is present though. At first I thought that another program installed in my PC might cause the problem (I had Ulead's MovieFactory 3 and DVD Workshop 2 installed when I first encountered the problem), so I formatted my disk and did a clean install but the same problem did continue to exist. My second thought was that maybe my processor got tired because of the hundrends of encodings I have done with it but if that was the case my PC would hang or just freeze during an encoding, right?

Anyone has a clue about all that? Any help is much appreciated! :D

Hello again guys,

I tried to encode a movie today but the "incomplete and/or corrupt avi" problem surfaced again. Target size was 1400MB but I only got 300MB and an encoding time of 2 hours, 51 minutes, 45 seconds, the latter being too short since with my machine a 1h 30m movie takes about 4 hours to encode. I am following your advise about log files and I am posting mine in case you find something out of the ordinary. Something else that might help is that my processor's temperature riched 75 degrees Celsius during encoding, close to the "dangerous" zone...:D

Hope you get back to me with a solution to my problem. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't look much further than that. You'd better open your case and stick a full size fan in front of your cpu :p. Overheating and overclocking wreak havoc with encoding.

If you're going to encode something DO NOT OVERCLOCK.
