View Full Version : Analog Capture Card Recommendations?

Hello

I'm tired of my old bt 878 card and want to upgrade to a new one.
I've already read what I could find on this forum about the chips to choose from Conextant CX2388X and Phillips SAA713x.
But I realize this is only half the bargain as those are the analog to gigital converters, the tv tuner is another story - and I havent seen anything about this here.

Anyway, I'm looking for a card that gives (really) good quality and the (wdm) drivers are ok.

I have looked at the asus and avermedia cards but could not make a decision. The compro looks nice, but it has the nec chip only for NTSC, and I use PAL.

Could you give me some tips on which cards to take a look at and what you liked about them and what not?

I would use it in combination with iuVcr mostly.

Thanx in advance,
Hironimo

Hi,

Somebody once gave me an advice that, so far, it is been true:
"if it is not broken, don't mess with the damned thing".

Anyway, I have heard many good comments regarding this card:
http://www.aver.com/products/tvtuner_UltraTV_pci_500.shtml

I have been wishing to purchase it, but my old BT878 is still working just fine.

Thanx for the reply.

This card has hardware mpeg2 however.
Originally I was searching for a card without that.
If I would by a card with hardware encoder I think
I'd choose the Hauppauge PVR 350.
You can give comments on that one too, if you want,
because I might concider that non the less, but
primary i'm looking for a card without hardware
mpeg2.

Hello again,

The main problem you will face with another software based card is the lack of support, for some lucky reason the BT878 drivers source code was leaked and that's why nowdays we have a bunch of applications that support it very well, (including modified drivers).

A veteran in the field, called Lordsmurf, has said nice things of the
ATI AIW (Theatre), maybe you could investigate a little on that one.
