Glad to see the guys at BBC are progressing with this codec.
Anyone tested it?

The files are here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dirac
There is also a splitter made by gabest (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ )

Is anybody eager to compile the codec ? :) There is no binary at sourceforge.

It would be nice if someone can make a VfW for it:D

Is anybody eager to compile the codec ?

Well, i hope to see an FFvfw implementation (or, well... some QuEnc-like encoder) quite early...

well i surely hope they could have a look the Source for Snow......

Could anyone successfully encode anything longer than 50 frames?I guess I would try if I could feed it with AviSynth input and get an output format that I can play directly in MPC.. but without I'm afraid I don't have enough energy

There's a directshow filter, a mplayer patch and also other stuff to play with.

The latest 0.5.1 version always crashes after a couple of frames with "Invalid state. Unrecoverable Encoder Error". "Dirac2005.02.05" build works, but it's even slower (and i guess the quality is worse too).I guess I would try if I could feed it with AviSynth input and get an output format that I can play directly in MPC.. but without I'm afraid I don't have enough energy No doubt, it's hard to use, and the quality is still very unimpressive. But if someone is interested in playing with dirac, these tools (http://www.fw.hu/carrotland/yuvtools.7z) can make the testing a bit easier.

There's a directshow filter, a mplayer patch and also other stuff to play with. You mean the two dlls are actually DS filters?

I mean this: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=102564&package_id=144468

I don't know if the DLLs are direcshow filters (but i dont think they are, coz usually DS filters have the .ax extention), i have to ask it to celtic druid.

direcshow filters can be *.dll or *.ax,
Try to run with "regsvr32 file.dll".

No they're not ds filters (cd also confirmed that).
the DS filter is at the link i posted above.

I've played a bit more with dirac, and actually it's not so hopeless as i first thought. The low-bitrate performance is bad, but up from QF 8 the quality is becoming quite usable, almost comparable to xvid at similar bitrate, and the image stability is in fact better than in the case of Snow (no color errors, no vibration). The main problem is the inconsistent quality, and apparently dirac doesn't like the very fast motions, the image completely falls apart during them.

BTW, you can convert the outputted YUV file to uncompressed avi with the util i linked, you can check the quality this way.
