Hello all,
apologize if this is a repost, trust me I have searched long thru the forum without finding an answer to my problem.
My project is to take an avi file and reencode it as mpeg2 (then burn on a DVD-RW to watch on my DVD player, which can read simple mpeg2 files).
For this I use VirtualdubMod to frameserve CCE. Why? Because I want to also mux a subtitle (I am Romanian) into the movie and VDM has Avery's subtitler filter which works just fine. After CCE has finished, I just remux the generated .mpv and .mpa files with bbMPEG and get a working mpeg file. My usual setting for mpeg encoding is 1-pass CBR, elementary. Not like I'd lose a lot of quality with this.
This method is fast and quite flexible and I like it a lot.
However, whenever the sound of the avi is in a VBR format (MP3 or AC3), I need to strip off the sound first (view stream list / demux) in VDM. I get, say, an AC3 file which plays just great in Winamp. Then I choose to re-encode only the video stream in CCE so I get the .mpv file, which also plays great (without sound of course).
The problem is when I remux the two streams with bbMPEG (and I tried other tools - same result), the sound is definitely out of sync. I can't seem to even understand whether it's a lag, seems just jerky and interrupted.
Did anyone have this problem? I'm at a loss right now and would appreciate any guidance. Should I use VBR encoding for the video stream as well? I understand this doesn't really matter.
Thanks a lot,
glu
