hi, i've made two conversions from AVI to DVD with TMPGEnc.

When I watch the video (the DVD and the .m2v file) on my computer I see the it with the original dimensions.
But when I play the movie on the standalone DVD player I loose 8-10% in both sides. Is it normal?

Should I add any borders to the AVI and then convert it to mpeg-2?

Thanks.

if you want to get the full picture on screen, yes :) but of course this way you loose quality as you reduce the actual image size...

Do original DVDs have black bars at both sides of the image to compensate the loss? Or do they also loose an 8-10% of image?

Some DVDs do add extra bars to compensate for overscan and any pixel cropping the DVD player might do; others don't. It just depends.
