Are there any objections if I make this option global (not per input source)?

if you mean using it ALWAYS (i.e. 2h15 not-very-compressible movie on 1cd) my answer is NO, but you know Im still some kind of newbie (and will remain it forever I think).
even with dvd-r burners many ppl like to have 700mb movies (or at less everyone still cares about size, even if not planning to burn CDs anymore)

That's not what I said. When you set this option on and encode lots of similar sources together its useful to have it global rather then set it for every job in the queue.

In my mind, it would comparable to the settings for .adjustsubs and .colorcorrection - I always use .sharpmatrix personally.

If making it global isn't the best solution, could it be made both ways? IE; if .sharpmatrix is present within the AutoGK directory - then use it, but allow its presence within the video folder to also initiate it?

Hi,

I vote for the hybrid solution: if it's in AutoGK dir use it globally and if it's in a job dir, use it just for that one.

Best of both worlds :)

Sounds good to me (but hidden options dialog it will still create only file in the output dir).

Regards,
I also vote for an hybrid solution.

One question about sharpmatrix, how does AGK behave when there is not enough bits considering the source?
Exemple 900Mb not enough and sharpmatrix for a 16/9 source;
1/will AGK stay at 608*XXX and lower the compression percentage (go lower than 60%) or
2/will AGK lower the rsolution (go lower than 608)?
If possible I would prefer go for a lower resolution (2/) because 1/ seems always bad in this case.

Another and last question: is it possible to always have the matrix (sharp or softer) and the resizer indications in the log? (already asked a few weeks ago)

Regards

Hello,

It seems I have my answer.

My last encode with sharpmatrix (tv capture) is down to 576*xxx with a 55% compression and softer resizer (resulting pretty bad). In this case I will try 1.1 Gb and sharpmatrix.

Resolution is always valued more than any other parameters.

Regarding sharp matrix option - I'll may be introducing another option. Originally sharp matrix option was design to allow short sources to use sharp matrix (i.e. TV shows etc.) because for target size 700Mb or less soft matrix is used (for movies this totally makes sense). Now I'm thinking of having sharp matrix option behave the same way as for > 1CD rips. So comp test is done using sharp matrix and then algorithm continues as usual.

I still dont get it clearly (sry): do you mean hidden sharpmatrix option will disapear (or be replaced by a softermatrix option) and will be used by default with <1cd rips or short lenght encodes? Or just in the comptest? I dont get the difference with the actual AGK settings.
Anyway its good to have AGK automating this kind of thing when encoding many similar stuff (you mean in different jobs, I think).
Also agree with adjustsubs (why isnt it set by default and not as hidden option?)

points:

1) matrix is always chosen automaticaly for > 1CD rips after comp test.
2) for < 1CD rips soft matrix is always used unless compressibility is too high and sharp one is need to prevent undersize of video
3) sharpmatrix option is forcing sharp matrix to be used always no matter what comp test value is (overriding both (1) and (2))

I want to either change (2) to be same as (1) or extend (3) to allow (1) behaviour for short sources.

Because you haven't read tutorial about it.

I read the tutorial before this option existed...

I get it now, and my conclusion is I have not enough knowledge to give an opinion. it just doesnt sound bad now as I think it would not increase the possibily of not autochoosing the bad matrix in movie 1cd rips.
