For those wanting VIP status a minimum donation of $15 is required via paypal or in the UK nochex can be used.
For new users a full install is needed: http://www.numenu4u.com/NuMenu4uFull.exe
For Updates only the UpdateBuild is needed: http://www.numenu4u.com/NuMenu4uUpdate.exe

17/01/06
• Fix: Demuxing from a folder was completely broken in previous release
• Added: PGCDemux.exe is now included in the install to ensure the ‘fixed’ version is used

01/01/06
• Fix: If the first subpic stream was not 0x20 then sst scanning would fail – dumb line of code.
• New build of revpulldown included – corrects a 3:2 pulldown issue on Film sources
• Fix: 0-byte files could have been selected and attempted to be processed – errors would occur.
• Fix: When confirming that an asset is actually 16:9 and not 4:3 PS, the sub display modes were still being displayed as Wide and Pan, instead of Wide and Letter
• Fix: A single still frame as the entire VOB could have errored out on a Conversion
• Fix: In conversion mode if one of the cells was a slideshow asset (ie still with audio), then incorrect timings were produced that affected the sub times for all of the following cells in that Vob. Scenarist would crash.

8/9/05
• Fix: In Vob Preview when creating the button links, 0 could have been passed causing a division by 0 error.
• Fix: When confirming that all video assets had been encoded no account was taken of, if in Vob Preview ‘Keep all original assets’ was selected. So, the muxer used the original, but the file was being called for encoding also.
• Fix: Using Original Assets caused an error when confirming that all assets had been encoded.

31/08/05
• Fix: Additional checks are now made to ensure that the VMI commands do not link to non existent PG’s (ie authoring errors)
• Altered the softencode reg fix batch file. The full path to REGEDIT is now used instead of just REGEDIT. When I upgraded to XP SP2, found that the whole path was needed – what gives!!
• In Vob Preview can now advance 1 subpicture at a time, and by each cell. In case of multiple subpics now have the ability to process the first subpic and remove unwanted buttons, then NuMenu will search and copy into the other subpics – by cell or for the whole vob segment. Clicking a button will now popup a menu instead of the left/right click business. The individual button commands are now shown also (can be switched off if wanted). Also able to see the button links and also the actual button command.
• Vob Preview has been redesigned and enlarged to allow easier use of button stripping.
• Minor internal fixes.

11/08/05
• Fix: Pulldown wasn’t being called after HC encodes (if needed).
• Fix: closing the recovery console would disable the ‘X’ in the main form.
• Fix: if numenu was minimized to the system tray from dif4u, and then restored a stack error would arise
• Added the LOGFILE parameter to the HC ini file, so that any issues will be recorded.

10/08/05
• Fix: SoftEncode path this time!
• Fix: Incorrect ecl settings could have arisen due to only part of the AVS script being written (this corrects wmansir’s error)
• Fix: Forward slash was missing from the source path in the Rebuilder.ini file. The source would not be loaded on opening. Also changed Rebuilder to open normally and not minimized.
• Noticed that when using PGCDemux for a folder demux, cell demuxing wasn’t working correctly
• Added a better error handler if no LOG file is produced from DVD2AVI / DGIndex
• Fix: Found a bug when writing the PGC type in unprocessed VTS’s. If multiple LUs then Root Menu could be written more than once per LU
• Further alterations to way the substreams are handled. This time to correct any streams that are not used but exist in the VOB file
• Added a sanity check for Format Conversion, encoder issues and authoring issues.
• Added multiple language support for the GUI. Pre installed .lang files are English, Italian, German & Dutch. If others are created, they will automatically be found in the install folder. Use the Pre installed ones as a template. (Many thanks to Influenza, TuRiSOft, FreaQ)
• Removed the necessity for a progress bar ocx , fixes a particular issue with XP
• Added HC Encoder support – The latest build with chapter support MUST be used – All internal matrices/profile can be used
• Also added the ability to set a custom matrix for HC Encoder
• Added the ability to use the original matrix of the asset with HC Encoder. The original matrix is determined by analyzing the video segment with QuantDump.
• The Eject after Read setting for DVD Decrypter is now automatically corrected to = 0 before NuMenu processing is started. If the setting = 1 before, then the setting will be restored on closure. This is to stop the iso from being dismounted before processing has finished.
• Altered the recovery console slightly – makes it easier to use
• Added an encoding check after CCE has finished. If for some reason CCE failed, encoding will be restarted for just those assets that failed. NB this will not pick up an encode failure that results in only part of the video. If after 4 attempts some assets are still missing then the originals will be used for the missing ones. NB if doing a conversion from PAL -> NTSC this is not possible, so NuMenu will abort

19/07/07
• Added option to remove temporary files on completion (except NuMenu4u.log)
• Fix: Unable to set the path to SoftEncode
• If a VOB is reused across different Language Units , and each LU uses a different substream, NuMenu will now no longer crash, and the scripts have the correct id’s flagged.
• In Default settings screen, now have the option to permanently set the start up drive or folder / destination drive or folder / actual working directory name.

14/07/05
• Fix: If processing multiple VTS sets, then the Aspect Ratio variable was not cleared between VTS sets; the dummy menu file would have an incorrect Aspect Ratio
• Fix: If original assets were kept via the VOB Preview screen, then they would still get encoded
• Fix: When in muxman mode, and analyzing the button command to determine if the command links to a dummied menu, and if the setting specified was ‘Remove Button Link’ then the button analysis always reported false for LinkNextCell, LinkPrevCell, LinkNextPG, LinkPrevPG
• Correction to the installer – was trying to register the cygwin.dll
• If using muxman and full script generation then the command JumpSS VTS0 is now reproduced exactly (YOU MUST UPGRADE TO 0.15c)
• VIP addition : Use of DGDecode (Modified by D3s7 to output LOG also) is now implemented – To satisfy the GPL a weblink to Neuron2’s website has been added (Under Help)
• Settings are now saved as soon as the ‘Goodbye’ button is pressed. This means you can set up the settings straight away without having to process a menu.
• Added AutoGopSize to the GOP options. This is now the default. For previously installed versions then this will need to be enabled
• Updated the copying & sector routines – they would fire even if authoring had failed or was skipped – caused a sector error
• Altered the Scenaid compatability mode switch slightly – forces a confirmation of this NB THIS MODE IS NOT YET AVAILABLE IN SCENAID so do not ENABLE
• Fix: In scenarist script file, dummy menu files were being created for non processed menus. The expected file therefore didn’t exist and scenarist would fail with a placeholder error
• Updated the Donate URL
• Fix: A source reported as 24fps (not 23.976) would get encoded as 29.97
• Fix: The correction for conditional argument in VMI command on previous build, actually broke it in scenarist
• Pressing the ‘Cancel’ button now close Recovery Console aswell as resetting the variables
• Altered the dialog control for some of the controls

10/07/05

Fix: Thanks to Trahald a bug came to light in the VIDEO_TS.IFO updating
Fix: A correction to a specific VMI command, that was dropping the conditional argument
Moved the ‘Use Original Assets’ setting from General Settings to Encoder – Makes more sense
Please Update to this build to correct the IFO routines

10/07/05
• Fix: When there are more than 600 vobs Scenarist would fail, so a check is made for this, but, this VTS was still called in the UpdateMPV routine causing the error reported by wfn1. NB this restriction doesn’t affect VIP users who have Muxman available
• When the Copy File setting is set to copy all remaining files (for complete DVD folder or ReBuilder use), then the VTS sector information is now updated automatically.
• Added the ability to resize the VOB preview window (This may correct any directx problems – unsure but worth a try)
• Fix: Broke a scripting part in the previous release for muxman
• Noticed a GUI error when manual pausing of Scenarist initiated
• Added the ability to generate an ISO image. IF the re-authored menu + the original title VOBs are less than 4.3GB then the original title VOBS will be copied over and an ISO created. If DIF4U is in control it will be shut down. This is a VIP option only.
• Finally added the help menu. There are multiple links to the correct part of the Help menu, through each screen
• A couple of corrections to the Wizard
• Fix: On some occasions the entire AVS script would not be written – caused an error in the Preview Window
• In the Preview Window, the entire size of the DVD is now shown. Altering the menu bitrate here shows the direct effect on the overall size.

29/06/05
• Slight alteration to the UpdateMPV routine
• Slight change to the Muxman routine, to reflect Muxman 0.15a when being used in MULTIPLE script mode.

25/06/05
• Fix: If the path to Quenc has spaces in it would fail
• Fix: Discovered that NuMenu was still attempting to re-encode video streams diagnosed/manually selected as dummy, or files that didn’t meet the encoding threshold – this could have caused an error
• Fix: A PGC link to VMG PGC1 would have caused a muxman error due to a script error
• For VIP users added 6 new options
o Replace button command if the button links to a PGC/PG/CELL that has been stripped. If the button is pressed then the cell will repeat
o Remove button if the button links to a PGC/PG/CELL that has been stripped.
o NB In some cases, the button linkage cannot be resolved, if the button works by altering the GPRM values and these are not checked in the linked PGC. NuMenu will check the GPRM values in the linked PGC to see if the common ‘if ( GPRM==….), LINKPGCN etc exists, In this case the linked PGC can be resolved so the button can be removed.
o Added a Scenaid compatability mode . This will output an appropriate mxp file but won’t actually mux. A future build of Scenaid will use this to create a full mxp file for Muxman that will then re-create the entire DVD
o Enhanced the asset removal, so you can now choose to automatically remove all video streams that are not menu screens. This is separated into the VMG and VTS area. In the VMG, non-menu screens are normally warnings etc, in the VTS they are normally intros into menu pages or transitions between menu pages
o Option to automatically load the VMG and/or every VTS on loadup regardless of size
• Major enhancement for VIP users: When in the VOB preview screen, the buttons for each menu are now shown. Left clicking the button banner (you’ll see), will change the button color outline to green – this button has now been REMOVED -> Left click to reinstate it. Right clicking will make the button outline majenta – this button has now been forced to AUTO ACTION. Right click again to reinstate the FORMER state (active or removed) This can work in conjunction with the above options. If for example you remove a menu, but forget to remove a button that links to that menu, NuMenu will try to fix this for you. Also, when in this screen, there is now a button that will use the original assets instead of re-encoding (perhaps enough material is being removed that re-encoding the remainder is now not necessary)
• Fix: When checking the 2nd or 3rd sub stream for compliancy (so the subs = substream1), EnableStop wasn’t being set in some cases. This would cause lots of sub errors in scenarist
• Fix: The cell still time was still being set in Scenarist is an asset had been dummied. It is now set to 0.
• Settings are now saved when the ‘start’ button is pressed instead of at the end (in case of failure)
• Script alteration to reflect the changes made in Muxman 0.15a
• Option to automatically select ALL assets in a format conversion, regardless of menu size

Hi Zeul,
I'm having problem with PAL to NTSC menu conversion. I can see it use besweet -> wav, then wav->ac2 using softencode. The final menus still has no sound.
Have tried 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and now trying this 2.0.3
Inspected by doing manual load with scenarist shows the audio folder empty.

Also was using scenarist 3.0 so I'm now trying 2.7 to see how it goes, but doubt this is the issue.

And also to report the new vobtest does not work and crashes with 2.0.3

The material I'm converting, checked with IFOedit shows the audio track of the menu was unknown instead of English, should that even matter?

Any insight to this problem appreciated.
Keep up the good work :)

Hi Zeul,
I have a problem with NuMenu4U. I have stripping some VOBID from menu, then have blanked some from other VTS and corrected a line of script code in the VGM Menu. After this I have create an image, blanking the entire film, because I need NuMenu only for MENU!!!! :D When i start the procedure, NuMenu say can't open. The program that crash is VOB TEST. But, for me, it's DVD Decrypter that fails the division in VOB ID, because is too fatt.
NuMenu runs well if I insert the original DVD, but I want to strip some VOBID before. And I can't make an image with file of film included for few space on my HD.
Sorry for my English.
Bye

@nicolati
I think you have a problem that i experience when running nm4u on error files sent to me. DVDDec doesn't recognise the disc, so nm4u fails. After creating your new iso (after stripping), run dvddec tools to create an mds file. Mount the mds file and now dvddec recognises the disc ;)

@Darklistener
Thanks for the feedback

I tested same setup with another NTSC movie and the audio is fine.
As my HD has limited space, I will try again the PAL2NTSC and debug if I can figure out how to do it. :)

Not sure how to turn on debug screen as the conversion finishes without any errors. It's just the resulting files have no audio when I tested them. :(

2.0.4 Changelog:

• The file size displayed is now more accurate. If the vob file exists but is a 0 byte file this is now not selectable for processing.
• Stupid syntax error that would cause an error after VOBTest had been run and incorrect cell type identified
• Correction to slideshow play time if format conversion enabled
• Updated Menu_Ifo_Update to correct the format after a format conversion if full compile not enabled and to update the palette if necessary
• Due to an error if conversion was enabled and the cell type was slideshow then instead of a framecount of 1 being passed to the encoder, the actual playtime (in frames) was passed, causing a scenarist buffer error.
• It has been found on one particular disc (thanks to Angelus) that there are some VTS’s that are totally unreferenced in the VIDEO_TS.IFO which as far as I know is against DVD specs, this was causing an error in the ifo analysis.
• In a format conversion if the original audio was AC3 then it was incorrectly named after processing, forcing the script to ignore the audio files – ie no audio in the output
• During audio encoding if the original was PCM audio and there was a negative delay denoted by [-..] and a conversion then softencode would fail, again causing no audio in the output
• Slight alteration to the button position calculation in a format conversion
• Revpulldown is now used for adding pan-scan information – if it fails then internal routines will be used instead, but this only corrects the first GOP header

http://www.numenu4u.com/NuMenu4u.2.0.4.zip includes the updated MenuUpdate.exe, VobTest also

Hey Zeul, I finally got my system all set back up and am testing the new version.

I'm having a problem with ProCoder that I haven't encountered before.

The error is Scenarist script importing failed due to duration of video mis-match. As you know ProCoder divides chapters into parts, in my case:

001.pt.001.mpv
001.pt.002.mpv

It appears the parts are being assembled correctly into the single file 001.mpv in the FRAMESERVING folder, but when I look in the NEW_M2V folder the resulting 001.M2V only contains the video from 001.pt.01.mpv.

I recall seeing the multi-part encodes with ProCoder in my previous test, and they worked fine, but then this is a completely fresh install, so it could be something that has changed on my end.

I have made m2v & ac3 files of all the video, and have converted the menus from pal to ntsc using nuMenu4u, now whats the best way to get everything back in order (ie proper naming of vts files and maintaining functionality)

I'm having a duration mismatch problem with 2 DVDs (the only ones I've tried with the new version so far) that did not give me any warnings before. Unsure what to think because Scenarist outputs working menus, although I wonder if they're oversized.

Switched to ProCoder 1.5, that might be the reason ...

Switched to ProCoder 1.5, that might be the reason ... Probably that's the problem. Use ProCoder 2 till the problem is fixed.
Anyway, I don't think the output produced by ProCoder2 is worse than the one by ProCoder1.5

Edit: Wanted to add that I also ran into wmansir's problem of NuMenu not joining the parts of ProCoder output

Zeul
22nd February 2005, 09:10
the procoder problem has been fixed i believe - running some tests now. With regard to all the parts not being joined, this was actually a revpulldown error. Due to mulitple parts revpulldown was stopping at the first sequence_end_code. Trahald has kindly corrected this with the use of some new switches, however, the latest released build of NuMenu4u obviously doesn't pass these new switches. Await the newest release :) or use CCE instead, or Quenc

if you launch the encoder minimized, CCE SP 2.70 works without problems, so users don't need an external program.
The external program is necessary for programs not developed anymore...

Today, i found out that when Numenu4u converts the WAV audio to AC3 using SoftEncode, the sound is of lower quality.
The original "wav" is clear, but the "ac3" file is dull.
If i convert the wav file using outside the Numenu4u, the sound is perfect.
I tried both 192 and 224 bitrate, but the same low quality.

Does anybody have the same problem?

I tied 2 more DVD'S with wav audio in the menus, and have the same problem.

The best way i can convert to high quality AC3 files and maintain the volume level as the original, is with EncoreDVD.

George

@kle500
Are you saying that if you encode the wav file with softencode yourself then the quality is far superior to when softencode is run by numenu4u. If this is the case what are the exact settings you use when run manually?

kle500
2nd March 2005, 23:39
@Zeul
Yes, that's exactly what happens.
Settings?
Default in SoftEncode. i don't touch anything.
Only the volume is lower, but quality is same as the wav file.

I will check again.
Using Besweet the quality is excelent (same as wav).
But Besweet is inferior to Softencode.

I think this thread has shed some light on this problem:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56020&perpage=20&highlight=softencode&pagenumber=1

I have always used the default setting of -27db, however, it seems that analysing the wav file would prove to be better and hence i can plug in the correct normalization. You can always edit the .ini file in the frameserving folder and re-run the bat file to re-encode.

I wanted to use NuMenu 2.0.4 on a little 9Mo menu (made of stills).
The source is PAL, 720x576@25fps.

I checked "encode stills" in CCE options. And after the CCE process (before scenarist), I saw that NuMenu transformed all the *.m2v in NTSC (I was using CCE 2.70.01.05).

I tried with CCE 2.67.00.27, and it's the same. Videos are transformed to NTSC (720x480@29.97).

SO I checked the *.ecl created by Numenu and I saw this:

height=480
....
frame_rate_idx=4

And I didn't checked "Convert PAL->NTSC". It seems that this problem only occurs with stills.

kle500
4th March 2005, 19:45
@Zeul

I see that the final ac3 file, has incorrect bitrate.
Allthough i tell Numenu4u to encode to 192, the converted ac3 file is 92.
That's why it is of lower quality.
No matter what bitrate i say to numenu4u to encode, the final is allways 92.

George.

If you open up the ini file in the frameserving folder what does the datarate= show?

kle500
4th March 2005, 20:43
Update to Softencode settings...
Sorry.. my mistake.
The bitrate is allways 224, no matter what i choose.
But the quality is totally different from the wav.

I was curious to see the quality from Besweet, and HeadAC3he using same bitrate (192).

Both Besweet and HeadAC3he created AC3 files of the same quality like the wav file.

Allthough Softencode as a standalone, produces the same quality as the wav file (using -31 in dialog normalization, produces the same volume as the original file), via Numenu4U, the quality is lower !!!!!!!

Can someone confirm?

by default i turn on surround sound, that will reduce the 'loudness' of the output. In your manual encode is this switched on or off, and if the dialog is set to -27db how does the output compare?

@Zeul
The surround setting, is the surround mode?
If yes, i choose: Not indicated.

In my manual encode, by using -31db, 192kbps, no surround, the sound is same quality and volume.
All other setting, are the same as in the ini file.

I just tested to encode from Numenu, at 384kbps.
Final .ini file says 224.

Regards.

ok i think i have found the bug that is causing 224 t0 always be written. as a test can you run softencode manually, with dialog set to -27, surround on. bitrate of 224, 2/0 channel mode. how does the output compare to the numenu made ac3?

I think i have the probable cause..maybe.. In the ini file can you change the setting DlgNorm=-27dB to DlgNorm=27

From the help file writing -27db has no effect, and if you then verify the file the result for normalization comes back reserved.

@Zeul...
I wish i could run softencode manually.
It crashes allways when i try to encode anything.....
But with

I tried to change allmost all settings in the ini file, with no difference.

BTW. by changing -27db to 27db, No difference.

Haha......
I see now that by changing the DCfilter to OFF, makes a lot of difference.
To the better of cource.

I let you know later, on more tests.

running the .reg file will remove the registry entries, this will stop the crashing

@Zeul
I did the test you said....
There is no compare between the .bat encoding and the manual encoding in quality.
Allthough the same settings, totaly different.
To produce the same quality and same level on softencode, i had to move to -31bd, and for the compression, i choose NONE.
The quality is the same as the wav file.
