I thought I would share this. I purchased Studio 8 plus the DC10 analog I/O card and used it to clean up old camcorder movies to VHS. I have been considering buying a dvd burner for the computer but settled for a stand alone LQ dvd recorder. Now instead of outputing to VHS I output to DVD. One thing I have found is that the visual result is far superior to that copied to VHS. I am delighted of course but as the captured files are in mjpeg format with some quality loss due to compression I find it hard to explain the apparent quality improvement. The only answer that I have is that the frames of the recorded DVD do not display any shimmer or interferance. This also applies to recordings taken of tv programs. There is one disadvantage if the DVD is burned from a computer then the resulting movie can have richer menu's and chapters. There is no need to render other than titles, transitions/graphics or added sound effects. So for a 1 hr. movie it takes 1 hr to capture, Time to edit and render additional material and then the recording is done in real time.

I am glad I went this way as my computer is a 800meg P3 and even to create a 1/2hr. SVCD takes 6 hrs to render and burn. One other bonus DVD disks are now $0.7aud ea.
