View Full Version : what would cause a single clip to not work?

I've been collecting KC Chiefs clips that I record over the past couple years and save as Divx AVI's. There's 1 particular clip...just 1...out of 2 seasons worth of clips that has suddenly stopped working. Even all the rest of the clips for that same game work just fine...which means it's definitely the same codec, settings, etc.

It still shows its correct file size of 5MB. It still previews correctly in Thumbnail mode in windows explorer. When I play it though it just sticks frozen on the very first frame and the player (media player, zoom player, ati player) locks up and I have to end task on it.

Again, this is the ONLY clip that is doing it and I even have others from the same exact set of encodes that are working fine.

I've tried this with my standard copy. I've tried the copy on my backup drive. I've also tried a copy that I got back from a friend I had given it to.

Any information on what might cause my system to suddenly not be able to play this one single file would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks!

Ok...I don't know why I didn't try this until now. I hadn't even tried the actual Divx Player until now and that DOES work just fine.

So, the file is fine apparently...but why would my other players suddenly not be able to play it. It's the ONLY one!???

Thanks again for any info.

GSpot (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/gspot221.exe) may be able to tell you why you are unable to properly render the file.

If GSpot indicates that the DivX Decoder is trying to decode and failing, please let me know and I'll set up and FTP account so that you can upload the file and we can debug.
