I am trying to create DVD from tape.

Capture, demux, mux using ifoedit to get VOBs are all good.

Then I use Nero VisionExpress3 to author the DVD and create files in a VIDEO_TS folder. Everything is still good at this step. I just don't like the LPCM audio it creates. For 1 hour 30 minute video, the audio file is more than 1GBytes vs. the captured mpeg audio which is less than 200MBytes.

I found a post here about replacing LPCM with ac3 audio. I followed the same example. The created title played perfectly by the computer. All menus are working.

The problem was that after the DVD was burnt, the menus were displayed fine by standalone but I can't select them. The DVD player just locks up.

Then I tried to use the computer to play the DVD disc, the menus would not work either. Then I tried the VIDEO_TS folder files before burn, they were fine!

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem once. I switched to DVD decrypter. Now all menus work just fine. I have no idea, how using different burning software affects menu stability so mutch. Especially when burning DVD-images! Nothing to do with authoring...

I had more tries over the weekend. I found it was related to DVD+RW. I was using DVD+RW disc because I wanted to make sure things were good before burning to DVD-R.

I tried to create .iso image then used Nero to burn it to DVD+RW. Menu did not work. I used daemon tool to mount on PC as a virtual DVD drive, menu was fine.

Then I tried to rip the contents on the DVD+RW using DVDDecrypter. During ripping, it reported some packet errors.

The I tried a 2nd DVD+RW. It was a used one. I erased the old content and burnt again. Most menus worked this time except one.

No other choice now, I burnt a DVD+R disc. Everything was fine.

Now I am nervous about regular data burning with DVD+RW discs. I backup my PC using DVD+RW discs. Now I don't know how much I can trust the backup copies. Every time I burn data disc, I check the verify box, hoping to get the best results. I am not sure about the data quality any more.
