Subresync help: losing the italics

I use to demux subs from anime fansub in ogm/mkv in order to edit typos and such. For the editing I just open the .srts in Notepad. For re-timing or other pretty basic tasks I always used Subresync from DVobSub 2.23.

Now I changed pc, and whenever I open-and-save an .srt in Subresync, the output .srt loses the italics (or any other tags, for that matter). Strangely enough, saving as .ssa does keep the formatting.

How come? It never happened to me with the old pc, and the DVobSub version was exactly the same.

I experience the same behaviour using subresynch 2.23. Perhaps try Subtitle workshop, it preserves formatting.

You seem to be sure that subresync used to preserve the formatting, otherwise I would say forget it(matter of fact I'm still saying forget it)

I'll quote Gabest's doc here:
Styles/tags:
- microdvd: input
- sami: input, partial: <br>,<i>,</i>,<b>,</b>,<font color=...>
- ssa/ass: input/output
(if you want to see style support for other formats then send me their specification)
It says nothing about srt, and in fact when you load original.srt, you can see that it applies the wrong tag to it in the edit box, and the <i> tag is removed from the main box.

I have found no way round it, so you have 3 choices here:

Manually reset the tags yourself, that is edit each and every line that was in italic or whatever else by re-adding the <i>/</i> yourself.This works. (long and tiresome)
Save as ssa or other format that's fully supported.Subresync is pretty old by now, and hasn't been updated since the middle-ages, so you must live with its issues.
Stop sweating unnecessarily and use Subtitle Workshop to do your editing and resynching in 4 clicks (or Subrip)

I'll do that.

I've found subresync very useful so far, since it used to do the work I need, which is just edits and re-timing of srts/ssa and the occasional conversion from smi-to-srt or ssa-to-srt. I don't need OCRing features and such [even if, iirc, subresync has some in-built OCR]. To boot, subresync is already on my system with the DVobSub suite.

Well there's Subrip, though you'll still have to edit with notepad, otherwise it's as basic as you can get really. All these apps I'm mentioning are entirely freeware btw. I might add a few links to my sig too, since I keep telling people to try them ;)

It looks that Subresync's tag handling depends from Windows version or it's settings.
Subtitle Workshop also has problems with tag conversion, until authors implement it correct (promised).

I'd recommend Subrip for timing correction and format correction.
It works well for srt, sub (micro DVD) and other, most used formats.
But it's not for title 'editing' - you have Notepad for that purpose :D

Different XP version. Vobsub is the same (2.23 + VSFilter 2.33).

I'll try Subrip. Editing in notepad is not a problem at all, I've always used notepad for the text edits anyway.
