I want to use vstrip, not other software.
I can bypass the protection with dvddecrypter, but i want to know if i can do it with vstrip.

Why don't you use DVD Decrypter instead of vstrip? What does it do that DVD Decrypter doesn't?
(Just being curious here.)

I've written an application for automatic backup of dvd in xvid (an 'all-in-one').
When i started to write this application, vstrip was the only command line utility to rip vob on hd.
If i switch to dvddecripter i have to rewrite a lot of code.
Also i don't know how to use dvddecripter to obtain a lot info from the dvd that at moment i obtain using vstrip (i need that info for automatic encoding...)
If there is a way to use vstrip it would be better for me :-)

dvddecrypter has also a command line interface. Check it.
Could be usefull for your task.

I know it has cli.... however i cannot do (or i'm not able to do) the same thing i do with vstrip with dvddecripter cli. I use vstrip also to obtain info about dvd structure.

reading
VTS_01 - Stream Information.txt
could be usefull. But is created only after ripping...
mybe ask to L.UK
you can copy on hd ifo file and parsing these with vstrip.

I am not here that often anymore.
Could someone bring me up to speed what this arccos protection is and what it entails?

LightningUK or someone could probably explain it better but here goes.
basically you have the cell list for a title but some of the cells actually are error sectors or even dummy vobs. so if you try to read them you just get read errors. these bad cells are skipped at playback though so they do not error on a normal dvd player.
these are picked up as unreferenced material by programs such as dvdshrink and vobblanker(for example) can be used to automatically remove such unreferenced material.
from what i understand DvdDecrypter will replace such error sectors with dummy sectors when ripping in iso mode and if you rip in ifo mode you have to deselect any cells marked with a so they are skipped.
hope that helps. :)
EDIT: if you loook at some of the threads about resident evil, little black book, the grudge and the forgotten you may be able to garner more information aswell. these titles all have arccos apparently.

The problem occurs on some dvd (example: 'Passione di cristo' and 'Terra di Confine' (Italian) ).
I use vstrip in 2 step:
1)I get some info about dvd and choose what ifo and pgc to rip
2)I rip the selected program chain.
In both step vstrip crash (there is the windows message that wants to send errors log to microsoft), however in the first step i'm able to get the info i want. The second stage ends at the beginning of the rip, so it fails.
I don't know if this is a hard protection to break, i'm not familiar with dvd structure, but maybe that a few lines of code (just an if statement) can solve the problem. Lighting uk spent only a few days to solve the problem....
In any case maven, thanks for your great software, it's more than 3 years that i use it to rip vobs!

I think the normal clib-read function do not seek when skipping cells, the ASPI layer might, but I am not 100% sure. Unfortunately, I neither have the time, the motivation, nor a currently compiling source-code of vStrip (due to me trying to design a plug-in system a long time ago and never finishing). Sorry.
I suggest you move to a software that is still supported and actively developed.

so you suggest to give a try to change the -t parameter, right? By default it seem to be 3, i will set to 2.
I will try when i get a dvd with this protection system, or ask someone to try.
Thanks for reply!
